I've tried to backup a dvd, but when I start to analyse it says 'Invalid DVD structure' what does it mean and what can I do. I'm fairly new to DVD shrink and I'm not entirely sure of what I'm doing so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AfterDawn idgeete, are you using SHRINK only to back up your DVD's?
Give us more info on the software that you use and in particular the movie you wish to backup. The more info the better.

All I do is put the disc in to the drive and click on DVD shrink, click on the disc for it to analyse and then backup and burn using Nero. When I click on the 'open disc' it gives me the error message 'invalid dvd structure'. Other than that I don't know, I'm not particularly experienced, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have Been using Shrink for a while and I just started getting the same message. Very strange after so many uses I would start getting the same error message as soon as you try to start it up.
This happened with Casino Royal and Rocky Balboa.
Very weird!!

Shrink is outdated and can't properly decrypt alot of the newer movie releases and so will produce various errors messages when trying to do so.
To get around this you could try and rip the video files to your hard drive using a free app such as DVDFab decrypter, once DVDFab is done with the ripping process, you can then use DVD shrink to open the video files with and proceed as you normally would with shrink to create your backup.
DVDFab Decrypter
http://www.dvdfab.com/DVDFabHDDecrypter3145Beta.exe
If shrink produces an error while trying to open the files produced by DVDFab, you'll need to first process then thru FixVTS, then try and open the files using shrink.
Here you can get FixVTS (free) and a simple guide on use:

@hirsch1
Shrink may have a problem with opening the files created by DVDFab from the Rocky DVD, if this is the case then FixVTS will fix that for you.

Hey dude. You can use DVD Decryptor or DVD Fab Decryptor to hep u with the Shrink.
What they do is rip it to your hard drive fully (7.4GB) then Shrink can shrink it from them files.
I've been out the game for a while myself and just recently got 'Closer'. I tried Shrink, DVD Decryptor, DVD Decryptor with DVD 43 in the background, everything. I'm currently this minute using DVD Fab HD Decryptor to see if that works and so far so good but still i gotta hope it works in Shrink.
Mind you 'Closer' is just £5 from my local supermarket so if this fails, it won't break the bank.
Good luck with your movie. There is alot of great people on these forums that can help you through it. :D

I'm the beginner of all beginners on this, and I really appreciate the help, but I don't quite understand some of the terms eg. 'rip' it etc., you can all stop laughing now!!! but I don't quite understand what to do, could somebody explain the steps in a language suitable for the intelligently challenged such as myself, I'd really appreciate it. I have been told from somewhere, can't remember now, that Sony discs give this kind of trouble, and I have to say that it has only been sony discs that I've had this trouble with.

Here you'll find some guides that may/should answer your questions.

By the way, rip is just another way of saying that you're transfering/copying files (video, audio) from a DVD/CD disk and placing them onto your hard drive or some other storage device.
