Ok I am using the latest version of AnyDvd, DvDShrink 3.2, and nero 6 Ultra edition. I go to bakc up my movie, all goes well until about 5 to 10 seconds left for the disc to finish. I dont know what is causing the problem , and I hope any one of you would know (I hope. When I use an external burner, all goes well. The problem is my external burner is on the fritz, and I'm turning out coasters on a 3:1 ratio. One or two outta every movie I've tried to back up Lately is a coaster. So I started using my internal burner. It is much, much slower, but until recently I was getting a 100% successful burn outcome. Now when I go to burn with the internal burner, I get this message. Hopefully some one can decode it, and let me know what I can do. In the meanwhile I will try some fixes, and will update as I go along. Thank You, anyone in advance for helping. Any information is greatly appreciated. Tony.

Here is the error log I get from shrink, although I don't know what is causing it.

Hi flamitaz
The internal burner is on the old side itself so it may too be on it's way out.
The last firmware update for it was in 2004 - so update to the latest - 2.0e

Newer media like the 16x Sony you're using may be hit or miss with it. For this drive you might want to try getting 8x or under media for it.
Good ones would Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

edit to add:
Edit out your serial # too - it's at the top of the log and begins w/ 1A.

What's the make and model of the external burner? It just may need a firmware update.

Hey Binkie, thanks for the reply. My external burner is a Sony DVD RW DRU-720A. When I first bought this thing it bas BAAAD. It laughed at any DVD I threw at it. No matter what brand. I never got a coaster. And it would burn at 16X. Now almost 2 out of 3 DVD back ups is a coaster. But that error log I only get when I use my internal burner. And it always happens when the DVD is about to finish. it gets to 99% or 100% and then it lets me know the burn was unsuccesful, and thats the error log I get.
I know the burner is old, probably time for a Pioneer. But just wanted to make sure before I go out and buy another one, that its not something that can be fixed without changing the hardware. Thanks again.

Give the firmware a go but I think on the internal I would replace with a Pioneer (good choice). Newer disc and older drive don't always mesh that well esp. with no firmware support for 3 years.

The latest on the External is JY08.
If it's not up to date give it a go.

Oh and you're welcome!

Ok I read Up on another forum and searched the internet, and wanted to share my findings with others that have my same problem. For anyone getting error messages like mine, the problem is with NERO. You basically have to uninstall, and use the Nero Clean tool. Then do a clean install of the version of Nero that has been working for you in the past. THATS IT. THATS ALL!!! SO Freaking easy. I knew it had to be. So I hope I can help some people. It feels so freaking great to be up and running again. By the way I haven't tried my old burners, but I bought a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-111D $60 brand new on ebay. And everything is working perfectly. By the way if this helps anyone out and fixes your problem, please post a reply and your feedback so we can see if it worked for you, oh, and spread the word!

What format is the file in? Maybe you have to convert it to Vob first and then shrink will recognize it. Not sure what other formats shrink recognizes, as I only use for DVD movies, which are in vob form. Not sure if that helps you any, but you can start there. There are programs that can convert certain or any media into other formats, not sure if it s freeware or not, hope someone else can chime in. Good luck.

Hello Flamitaz
I'm having the same problem, the only difference in my case is that the error message that I'm getting all the way at the end where it says existing drivers: it doesn't say anything. I have 2 burners in the same computer a Lite-On and a Sony; and the software that I'm using is Nero 6 like you. I have done everything that I know that it may fix the problem, but nothing seems to work. I uninstall Nero and I even deleted everything in the registry that it has anything to do with Ahead Nero, and then install it back, but I get the same problem, again.

A week ago I was burning any movie using these softwares RipIt4Me version 1.7.1.0, DVD Decrypter version 3.5.4.0 and then DVD Shink 3.2 Sometime I would use VobBlanker too. At this point it seems like a Nero software issue, but I can't afford the latest version. Can anybody out there help me to fix this problem without expending money????
Please, please...... Help..... Help.......

Thank you.

George.

Well, I tried a lot of things, uninstalling and reinstalling Nero helped some. Used different media, (was using sony 16x dvd-r), that helped a little more. Bought a new burner, (pioneer kicks ASS!), THAT helped out a lot. rant* I like sony, but I think that its stupid they go through a lot of trouble to make it hard for someone to make a back up. If its really bothering you sony, here's a suggestion, don't make the hardware. *rant off. Now I usually, every once in a blue moon, get an error message when making a backup of a backup, but its very rare. I use to go through shrink to do this, or use to use drag n drop, but would get error messages often. Now I use Nero smart start for making backups of backups. Works great! and is fast. So I hate to be tied down to one option, but if it works and works well, what the heck, why not. I haven't had a problem making a backup of an original since I went trough all those steps. Clean fresh install of Nero, different media, new burner, and thats it. Heck I haven't even needed to use Anydvd (only for sony, can't trust those B$#@s). Everything else, shrink and its done! Or Ripit4me, great bundle! Hope I brought some light to anyone, or a glimpse of hope. One of these days I'm just gonna restore my computer to factory settings. Oh by the way Dvdflick is awesome too.

Hi ZumZum
Nothing showing under existing drivers is actually a good thing. What's listed under there is drivers that might cause a conflict.

Post the Nero log - minus the serial # which usually begins w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.
If you didn't save it - you can find them here (just need the last one)

Great set of software you are using! I use Ripit4me (still works on all the new releases so far, even without any updates), DvdFab HD Decrypter, Dvd Decrypter, Dvd Shrink, VobBlanker and Imgburn. They are all FREEware!! Never have any problems with this recipe. I have 2 Pioneer burners, they rule! I never had any luck with Nero, I would ditch Nero and try these free programs if I were you.

If your files are in the AVI format, try a free program called Avi2Dvd. It takes a little while for it to do its job converting but does an excellent job. It will convert your AVI file into a VOB file with the necessary IFO and BUP files so you can open with Dvd Shrink and then use your choice of burning software to burn to Dvd. Hope this helps.

Thank you Orion

I know, all those freewares are great and always worked for me. I never had any problems till now, but..... I thought you needed Nero to burn with these freewares...... I'm confuse now.

You can copy with these freewares without Nero? They don't work together?

Ok 1st update the firmware on the drive this latest is HSOE - link

The media you are using is made by CMC - not the best by far. Better would be Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.

You also getting a Drive not ready message. So let's try another burning program - here's a good one that's free (updated burn engine of decrypter) - ImgBurn.
Use the build mode to add the video_ts folder to burn - guide

Give that a go and let us know.

Once you have decrypted the original video files with the above mentioned software, you can use ANY burning software to burn with. I prefer to use Imgburn (free) or Sonic RecordNow (not free).

Hey for anyone out there. I'm not a newb in backing up, but have only resorted to certain programs because they worked so well in conjunction with each other. Like for example DVDshrink with nero. Never had problems until a couple of months ago. So is there any other program like imgburn, that will work with shrink? Or is there another set that will do the same? Basically I love how after shrink encodes the files, it spits out the disc and preps nero to back up, insert blank disc and done. Thats what I'm looking for. Anyone?

ImgBurn w/ autoburn w/ Shrink - just need to install this exe - link

Extract the file then copy the shrink.exe in programs files>dvd shrink folder.
You'll get the normal windows overwriting warning - click yes.

Now when you click back-up in Shrink under select backup target you'll see an option to burn w/ ImgBurn.
