i just downloaded dvd shrink 3.0 beta 5 and i can't make it work. i know it's still in the testing phase, but i can't make it work at all. i'm trying to back up run ronnie run and anger management, but half the time i get an error message that says paging files too small, not enough room, and the other half it says an error occured and it doesn't know why. i was using 2.3 before, but it ceased to function so i got the new one. what the hell is a paging file? i have never heard those words before. please help

Set your virtual memory (paging file) to x1.5 your physical ram (upper and lower limit) also defrag, disk cleanup etc..

Paging file:

When your computer is running low on RAM and more is needed to complete your current task, Windows uses hard drive space to simulate system RAM. In Windows , this is known as Virtual Memory, and often called the pagefile. The default size of the virtual memory pagefile is 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your computer.

To change the size of the virtual memory paging file, check out the help in windows to get the one that will work on your system, the following is for windows 2000.

Open System in Control Panel.
On the Advanced tab, click Performance Options, and under Virtual memory, click Change.
In the Drive list, click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
Under Paging file size for selected drive, type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set. (note: increase the size)

To open a Control Panel item, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.
For best performance, set the initial size to not less than the recommended size under Total paging file size for all drives. The recommended size is equivalent to 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your system.

this would IMO point to low ram available in your PC.
Might be an idea to see if your pc will take more.
a program called Belarc [free] (www.belarc.com) will tell you what is currently installed in your pc, type etc...

You can never have enough ram, however if windows is managing virtual memory (not very well) it's always best to change to what i've said above (as 9/10 mcse's prefer it).

Also if you have 2 hard drives always put paging file on the non system drive..

Yes, need more info on hd space ram etc..
