i got my wii modded with the 1.9g wiikey and afterwards i did a bunch of official updates (new channels etc.) and nothing changed on mine and i have 3.1u i am assuming from one of those updates. i can't guarantee anything but i think it should be perfectly fine to update to 3.1u. you need your brawl!

If it's error 001 I would check to make sure you updated properly. The 1.9g update disk runs twice. The first time it detects that firmware the wiikey has on it, and the second time it updates. It plays a Homer Simpson 'woohoo' when it updates successfully.
Okay I'll try that brb.
It is the error 001 I get and I've updates my Wiikey to 1.9b but it's still not working. SMgh works though but why not Brawl? I thaught theyuse the same protection. Somebody please help me! I have the legit copy and the dual layer back up. I have two copies of the damn game and I can't play it lol.
correction I meant 1.9g not 1.9b. I have 1.9g Wiikey patch.
Could we really get a solution on this? Multiple people (both NTSC-USA and NTSC-JPN) are having this problem, so it's not just an isolated incident.

To reiterate:

- NTSC-JPN Wii with WiiKey
- 1.9g "Galaxy" Update
- Region Override turned ON using 1.3 Config Disc.
- Super Mario Galaxy plays fine.
- Disc update run off of DVD5 Brawl disc. DVD5 game plays fine.
- DVD9 Brawl does not ask for update. Shows up in Disc Channel. When you try to play the game, it gives you "Error 001: Unauthorized device detected."

Swapping from the DVD5 disc to the DVD9 disc has worked fine for now, but it's quite inconvenient. And since the majority of people have gotten it to work, it seems like one small overlooked factor somewhere is throwing the whole equation off. I've gone over it in my head a thousand times, but I can't seem to figure out what's causing this. C'mon people, help us get this running like it should.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe its the 15% thing.

Maybe we need to update fully?

I did the 15% trick and get the 001 error also.

just let your system update. i have wiikey 1.9g on us wii 3.1u. i let it update all the way. i have the two extra sets of channels that don't work but who cares. the dvd5 and dvd9 version work awesome with no regionfrii or brickblocking, no unplugged or swapping of discs. i did the update off the dvd5 version.

Sorry, but I'm a noob and need help. I've got D2CKey, and had 3.1U firmware. Burned Brawl DVD5 without brickblocker, updated to 50%, at which point it froze up entirely. Then I burned a DVD5 with brickblocker and it was working fine. I've got the duplicate channels, but that doesn't matter.

Now I have the DVD9 iso, and it freezes after the 'Now Loading' screen - it gives a solid white screen and stops there. I tried discswapping, and re-burning with brickblocker (and at slower speed with ImgBurn instead of Nero), but it still freezes.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

edit: I forgot to mention, my dvds are GQ dvd+r duallayer (the single layers were also burned on GQ - and worked fine! - but I've since bought some Verbatims for future Wii games)

i think i figured out the 001 error. i have never gotten the 001 error until today when i decided to turn my read speed on my wii key up to 6x for better load times. 3x is supposed to give you better compatibility but 6x means less load times. it worked fine but the third time i booted up smash after turning it up to 6x i got the 001 error. i changed it back to 3x and it worked immediately. maybe is is harder to read the dual layer discs at 6x. check your speed.

this seems to be a re-occuring saga with the D2CKey.
can anyone confirm that they have dvd9 release WORKING with the D2CKey chip?

it appears to be so - please read my post above, i think the reason the D2CKeys are failing is that they read at 6x and cannot be changed like the wiikeys...hence the failed reads for all D2CKey users....

AkariK -- reburn the dvd5 version at a low speed, no other processes running on your computer. i did this after my update kept freezing and it worked like a charm. you might as well do this and let the update run its course since you already have dual channels. i did and now i can play the dvd5 and dvd9 with no wiiregionfrii or brickblocker or anything. make sure your read speed is at 3x also if you have a wiikey. i dont know about other chips.

I don't see what difference that makes, unless not seeing the update finish is the ultimate problem.

I was actually hoping to reformat the system memory and re-update the firmware and start over with that update, but a system memory format just killed my saves and Miis... what a waste of effort. Luckily I had the saves backed up, but it's still a pain to put them back.

Edit again - In retrospect, putting in any of the DVDs I burned (dvd5 with and without brickblock, dvd9 with and without brickblock) don't even prompt for the update. Reburning at a slower speed shouldn't suddenly make it ask me to update.

well, when my update kept failing, i could only play the brickblocked version. as soon as i reburnt and let the update complete i could play without even having to brickblock the disc so i think there must be something more to gain from letting the update finish. it is worth a shot. the dual channels dont bother me.

Hmm. Actually, after I failed the update, I put in the same dvd5 w/o brickblock and it no longer recognized the disc at all - it didn't prompt for update again.

Wasn't D2C able to boot the original game? It seems weird that the D2C would be able to read the original and not the back ups.

AkariK - that is really strange. i guess it must be because we have different modchips. that is weird. my update was not crasjing. it actually gave me an update failed message and returned me to the wii menu. i reburned and then it worked. that is strange though. i hope you figure it out. all i can think of is that the d2key runs at 6x not 3x. maybe they will provide an update to change the speed.

So here's an interesting brawl issue...

I installed a Yowii, did the 10-15% method, and, using a brickblocked regionfrii copy, played brawl (yay!).

Next morning, after not touching the system, both burned and legit copies of games failed to spin up in the drive. after some experimentation, it seems that the ribbon cable, when held in just the right way, allows it to spin up, but just plugging it in doesn't do it.

Any suggestions on how to make this connection reliable and robust?

Thanks much.

-Grey
