I'm pretty sure this is possible, but being I am 'challenged' when it comes to computers I thought I may as well ask the experts here instead of me destroying something. :-)

I have Rome Season 1.

I would like to back the episodes up, but is there a way to get rid of all the junk but still keep the "Select Episode" selection?

The first disc I did (it has episodes 1 &2 on it) I was able to back the episodes up, but in order to get from Episode 1 to 2 I have to fast forward thhrough 50 min of footage.

I'm just thinking there has to be an easier way.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Are you trying to keep just the menu and the episodes?

And also could you elaborate on what exactly 50 min of footage was in the middle of the episodes. Was it extras or what?

Yeah, just menus and episodes.

What I meant by 50 min of footage was that's how long episode 1 is and to get to episode 2 I have to fast forward through episode 1 (50 min) and it just got old... real quick.

When I reauthored with Shrink I just bbrought the two episodes over to the left and took out all the audio I didn't need and burned it.

I'm thinking I missed a step to make that easier or something.

Am I making any sense? lol

An easy way to do this would be VobBlanker. It may look intimidating at first but it is really easy to use. You'll have to rip the DVD to your hard drive cause VobBlanker can't read it if its copy protected.

Then just load your dvd into VobBlanker and you can right click and blank anything you don't want. And in your case that means everything but the menus and the episodes.

Here's a guide by alkohol.

Then just do a Full Disc backup with Shrink.

I've read that guide three times now and have no idea what it's talking about...

That is way too complicated for me. Is there no other way to do it?

All you have to do to blank something is click on the VOB, go to the bottom section and right click > Blank.

Make sure you download the newest version of VobBlanker cause the one on this page is kinda old but it is still the same concept. And it will show you a preview of the selected video.

Hope this one's easier to follow.

You could try DVD FAB Platinum. It has a Free Trial period. I don't know if the SPLIT Function is active in the trial Period.

You Could also try dvd rebuild.

It actually sounds like you've been attempting to do the reauthor mode of Shrink instead of simply backing up the DVD. If you try reauthoring, you probably will lose menu functionality and will get stuck having to fast forward episode to episode (I made this mistake with Fawlty Towers a couple years ago). Just open the DVD or ripped file with Shrink and hit Backup button. Don't drag anything anywhere, just hit the Backup button. If you want to save some space, try deselecting subtitles and foreign languages.

As vtowner mentioned the easiest free way to do it is with VobBlanker. Here is the actual home page for VobBlanker http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/vobblanker.htm

You may download the latest version at that site and there is a guide section in using the program. As you were originally told, it is very easy to use.

I used it for many years until I decided to upgrade to a more powerful program. The guide by alkohol is a good guide to follow. It may seem difficult at first but after you use it once or twice you will begin to use it on every backup you make!

Exactly! VobBlanker is the way to go! I use it daily with every backup I do. It might seem a little confusing the first 2 or 3 times using it, but is very easy after that. You can use it to split episodes amongst 2 or more single layer discs keeping all menus intact and in working order. It can also be used to split a movie between 2 single layer discs if it won't fit on 1 keeping all menus intact and in working order. I can't live without it!
