I have been using DVD Shrink for a long time and I have never had a problem with it until I Installed a wireless router for high speed internet and wireless printer for my laptop. I have upgraded to nero 7 and uninstalled then reinstalled DVD Shrink. If anyone can give me some advice on drivers, firewall settings, router settings, etc.. I would greatly appreciate it.

The error message you are getting from DVD Shrink would be helpful as well as the program(s) you are using to rip the disc with as well as the name of the movie.

After I encode the movie and DVD shrink ejects the movie and asks for the blank cd, I insert the blank cd however, it only gets to 1%...stalls for about 3 mins...then ejects the disc saying burning failed. It is doing this to EVERY movie I try which has been about 10 movies. This is the log I recieved on the last failed burn:

Quote: After I encode the movie and DVD shrink ejects the movie and asks for the blank cd
Firstly, this requires a DVD...not a CD
Quote: CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-710A atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
Your DMA should be enabled for both drives.
Quote: Disc Manufacturer: RITEKF - 1
Cheap discs...I would recommend Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Verbatims will be on sale next week at Best Buy 50 for $12.

You have the most current version of firmware for your drive, but it two years old and in the future will show less and less compatability with new media. I would use the NEC, mine is still going strong.
It would be handy to see the end of the log to see what drivers are loading while you burn.

Of course I am using DVD discs and not CD discs. Like I said I have been using shrink and nero for a long time.
As far as the DMA is concerned, I tried to work with it a little but I can't understand anything about it.
There are 2 Primary IDE Channel Properties:
On the first one, both transfer modes are on DMA if available.
Device 0, The current transfer mode is on Ultra DMA mode 2.
Device 1, The current transfer mode is on PIO mode which I believe it should not be on.
On the second one, both transfer modes are on DMA if available.
Device 0, The current transfer mode is on Ultra DMA mode 5.
Device 1, The current transfer mode is on Not Applicable.
The second IDE Channel Properties:
Device 0 & 1, both transfer modes are on DMA if available.
Device 0 & 1, both current transfer modes are on Not Applicable.
I have 2 Primary IDE Channel properties:
First one - Device Usage, it is enabled.
Second one - Device Usage, it is shadowed not allowing me to select it. No words are in the shadowed part.
The second IDE Channel Properties:
Device Usage, it is enabled.
Under the driver tab, the driver is 5.1.2600.2180
The Driver for the NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A and the SONY DVD RW DRU-710A is 5.1.2535.0
I hope that's what you are asking about if not please let me know. You mentioned you needed more info from the log I sent, I copy/pasted the entire log.
One more thing, When I uninstalled and reinstalled DVD Shrink and Upgraded to Nero 7, When I go to Backup/Target Device/Select Backup Target now I am seeing the NEC and the SONY drive. Before only the Sony drive showed up and I believe that it is because The sony is the master and the NEC is the slave. Please tell me your thoughts on that.

Correctamundo...here is a guide. I think this should fix your problem.

I did exactly what the link told me to. I uninstalled the primary ide channel properties that was showing PIO mode. I restarted the computer, it recognized the new hardware, reinstalled it, and put both devices in PIO mode. I changed both to DMA if available and restarted the computer. After reboot I checked the condition and the device 1 is still in PIO mode. However, I tried to burn movies with the NEC and it does work. It even works faster than the SONY ever did. I don't understand why it worked before I hooked the wireless router up and wireless printer.
I guess since it worked before, even though I have another burner, I still want the other one to work again.

Should have nothing to do with your wireless connections. Data transfer mode switches from DMA to PIO after "x" amount of read errors...I believe it is six. If the transfer mode cannot be changed then the drive may be bad and need replacing.

I had the SONY drive for a couple of years. Since I've had it I burned about 350 dvd's. I have over 700 dvd's total. That is a lot of burning so I wouldn't doubt that the burning is going up. Thank you for all your help. What's done is done. But like I said, the NEC is faster than the SONY. NO BIGGY!

I see your copy speed for the DVD- is set at the right speed, did you or have you ever cleaned the burner by using a DVD cleaner, might be some dust, you could also check the next burn by doing this, open and start DVD Shrink and select the read drive and burn drive for NEC burner, I have 4 burners and every once in a while I have to use 1 of the others to do the burn, I noticed also that you reinstalled NERO or did an upgrade, well NERO dosnt come with the ASPI drives for DVD Shrink anymore it has its own, there is a NERO tool to see if you have the ASPI drives installed, when you run the app. it will show NERO ASPI working, Windows NOT WORKING so you have to download and install new ASPI drivers for Windows

hope this will work for you,
