I am wondering if anyone can help me. At home, I have my PS3 set to a composite connection (r,g,b,r,w) and it works great. I am on business and the hotel's tv only has a coax input. Therefore I went to Target, bought a cheap RF modulator and tried to hook it up. No dice! Does anyone know the following answers?
1. Can a PS3 be played through an RF modulator (i'm sure it can, at least i hope.
2. Is there something special i have to do (like turn off a ps3, or hold the ps3 button for a long time) in order for the PS3 to recognize that my input has now changed?
Please help. I'm miles from my house and have a ps3 i can't play! aargh!!!!!

I think you mean component as in the thread title. Just use the original composite cable the PS3 came with (RCA Yellow Red & White) hold the power button down for 5 seconds when turning on. If you are using component (RGB RW) it will not work with an RF modulator as it will only use RCA (YRW).
Component = Red Green Blue for Video & Red/White for audio 5 connections total
Composite = Yellow for Video & Red/White for audio 3 connections total
As a last case option just go to Gamestop, Radio Shack, Walmart etc. and pick up a PS1, PS2 or PS3 RCA/Composite cable.
sorry, i wrote the last message in haste. i do have a r,w,y connector for the PS3. i also have a component (r,g,b,r,w) that i use at home for my PS3. i bought an RF modulator into which i hooked the PS3 r,w,y cord. i then hooked it to the tv through the coax modulator connector. the screen was just fuzzy, as if no connection was being made from the modulator (as if the tv didn't recognize the PS3 since it was set to component at my house).
so when you say hold the start button, do you mean the PS3 button, the actual sideways triangle start button, or the I/O on/off touchpad switch on the PS3.
Hold the on button on the PS3 itself for 5 seconds. That will reset it and should fix it. Then when you get back home you have to do that again for the component connection.
