please can you help ive downloaded a game off the web all went to plan except when i come to play it on the psp 3.10firmware i get a game can not be started 80020148 error any ideas as to how to get round this?. im new to this so be gentle(and its my birthday today)

Happy Birthday :)
But, look around the forums, you'd have found what you needed to find out.
You need to have firmware 1.50 or a custom firmware to be able to play downloaded games (This also applies to custom themes and homebrew). The reason for this is after firmware 1.50 Sony took out the ability for the PSP to run unsigned code. Custom firmware (Namely 3.40 OE-A or 3.52 M33) can still run this unsigned code. To get to a custom firmware you will need to downgrade to 1.50 first.
You will either need to get a Pandora battery (Look this up, there are many threads about it) or ou can upgrade to 3.50 and then downgrade with the use of the game Lumines.

Many thanks for your reply all i need do now is to learn how to downgrade lol i take it i use my computer?
i think ill need a step by step guide (im not the brightest of people)lolthis is all new to me but i do love the psp.

Well, you use your computer for a bit of it, but your PSP does most of it.
Using the Lumines downgrader, basically you put some files on your PSP which, when you run the game Lumines, sort of "hack" the firmware so that unsigned code can run with it (In this case, the downgrader). You can get the files needed here.
Or, the other way, using a Pandora battery, these are created using a PSP that is already on 1.50 or a custom firmware. You will probably be able to buy one on ebay, or make one yourself if a friend has a psp with 1.50/custom firmware.

sounds complicated to me but ill give it a go when i get a copy of lummins.I DONT NO IF THIS IS IMPORTANT BUT MY PSP WAS DOWNGRADED BEFORE TO 1.5 BUT SOMEONE AT WORK CHANGED IT BY MISTAKE AFTER HE BORROWED IT FROM ME (HENCE I DONT SEE HIM ANYMORE LOL)It had homebrew dvhook*2 allsorts of firmware now it only has 3.10 but even then some games i downloaded from the net didnt work any ideas!!!

Wait, so are you at official firmware 3.10, after having been at 1.50 from a downgrade?
If you have a TA-082/086 motherboard, you cannot now upgrade past firmware 3.11, you will have to get yourself a Pandora battery if this is the case.

where do i find what mother board im running. system software says 3.10oe-a mac add 00.01:4a:ba:1d:co ????
In recovery mode advanced it says toggle usb(flash0)usb(flash1) is this right cos if its been downgraded shouldent there be other flashes?

Oh riiiiight :)
You're on a custom firmware already, no, that's fine, good, you've made your job a lot easier. So, you don't need devhook or anything to run games.
Ok, all you have to do is upgrade to a higher custom firmware to be able to play newer games. I'd suggest 3.52 M33, you can get it here. Then update to patch 4 after that.

right then let me see if ive got it right im running a cust,software?
so thats good? all i need do is upgrade to a higher firmware which i download via my pc(or just follow the instructions on the web )do i still need the game lummings? before i go any further id like to thank you for all your help im sort of getting it (lol) i hope

No, this is only for official firmware, so, since you're already on an OE firmware, you don't need it.

OK, so, you've downloaded the 3.52 M33 upgrader from the link above.
You will also need the 1.50 EBOOT and 3.52 EBOOT files. You can get these here (1.50) and here (3.52).
Ignore the instructions on the Sony website, just get the file from "Download procedure" step 3.
You will have to extract the 1.50 EBOOT file, but the 3.52 file is already extracted. Name the 1.50 EBOOT to 150.PBP and the 3.52 EBOOT to 352.PBP.
Now take the M33CREATOR folder and place it on your PSP at this location: ms0:/PSP/GAME150/
Now place both the 150.PBP and 352.PBP files into the M33CREATOR folder on your PSP.
You can now disconnect your PSP from your computer and run the update, after it has finished it will have created another icon on your PSP, run this, after it has finished you will have firmware 3.52 M33.
Make sure your battery charge is above 75% and/or has a charger plugged in before you do the update.

MY SONS TAKEN HIS AWAY ON HOL SO CARNT CHECK WHAT FILES SHOULD WE HAVE IE;MY BROTHERS SAYS:PSP>COMMON(FOLDER EMPTY),GAME,GAME 150 EMPTY ,GAME310 EMPTY,SAVE DATA,AND SYSTEM SO IVE PUT THE CREATOR FILE IN THE GAME 150 THEN THE EBOOT 150 AND THE EBOOT 532 THEN I RAN THE CREATOR AND THE MESSAGE CAME UP
