OK i searched around on the internet and found that you can use your HDTVs DVI port to display HD (if your TV doesn't have HDMI, which mine doesnt >:| ) but the problem was that the sound would not come up. I searched around some more and i think i found the solution, which was to get an adapter with two phono RCA females (with the holes) and a 3.5mm jack on the other end: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...:MEWA:IT&ih=017 (my TV has a 3.5mm jack port that says PC Audio In, so i guess that should work). my thoughts were to use this audio cable by sticking the 3.5mm jack into my PC AUDIO IN port and by connecting the male phonos from my PS3s AV cable to the female phonos on the adapter.
my question:
will this work? im gonna buy it anyway but i put it here incase people have similar problems.
Yes, this is the solution I use and it works rather well. The thing is you'll need some sort of software to play the audio from the Audio In Line. I use DScaler, but you can use any software you already have.
Your TV has to have an audio in for use the DVI input. Just use the red & white cables the PS3 came with, then go to the settings for Audio configuration to tell it to use them while you use the HDMI to DVI. Or if you have a 5.1 receiver use the Optical out on the PS3 to connect it to that.

yes the TV has both DVI and VGA inputs that are for PC specifically (although of course any other devices with the compatible interface should work as well) and it says PC AUDIO IN so im sure that its for the audio, since DVI doesn't deliver audio from the PC so it has another solution for audio. im sure that this should work but my main concern was that the usage of both outputs on the PS3 (AV and HDMI) may cause a conflict into which one is displayed. but from the looks of it, it shouldn't, so thanks a lot for the help you two
It is true that the PS3 will not understand what you want to do at first. Once you plug in a HDMI cable the PS3 sends audio and video through that cable. The solution is simply going under the system options and changing audio output to Component/Composite instead of HDMI.
