Have the files been ripped to a folder named 'VIDEO_TS' and does the folder contain files named .VOB .BUP .IFO ?

It would depend on the type of file.
Are the files .avi or .rar???

if you change the VIEW to details it shows what type on the right.
if it is a .Rar file
you can DL this free unzip program(7Zip) to unzip the archive
after its unziped, you have to convert the file to DVD-Complaint files(vob, ifo, bup) to be able to watch the movie in a dvd player(that doesn't support divx)
programs like nero vision and convertXtoDVD do this, there are also free ones too.

how big is the folder?
around 700MB?
if they are you dont need to shrink them, you need to convert them to dvd-compliant files, using a converter program like the ones a mentioned above.

@Beckz1205
Winamp associates itself with a lot of media files, so it's sometimes not obvious the actual file type.
If you right click on the file and look at its properties it might tell you more.
The example below is a DivX file.

That's ok, it's the open version of 'DivX'.
You can convert it to a DVD file structure with vsoDivX.
It's not sophisticated, but does the job.
You can burn the output folder with a burning program.
ImgBurn is good.
Good luck!

Import the file(s) (AVI, WMV,MPEG, VOB)
Output (standard DVD file format) to a folder on the HDD.
Set 'Aspect' to 4:3 (if you have a regular tv)
Set 'Standard' to NTSC (if you live in North America)
http://www.imgburn.com/
Run ImgBurn
Click 'Mode' > 'Build'
Click 'Output' > 'Device'
Click 'File' > 'Browse for Folder', highlight on the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, > 'OK'
Set burning speed to 4x and click the green write button.

Load the converted files, located in the 'VIDEO_TS' folder, into DVD Shrink and 'Backup'.

I'm not familiar with WinAVI, but if the output is in the form of a DVD folder, then DVD Shrink will be able to open it.
Bear in mind that the running time of the video and not the size of the DVD files should decide how much you use DVD Shrink.
There is no point in converting many hours of AVI files (which were DVD files that have been compressed - thus losing quality) back to DVD (losing more quality) then further compressing them with DVD Shrink.
Four hours of running time would be the maximum compressed onto a DVD that you can expect decent quality - and that's assuming the AVI's were good quality too.
Personally, I never convert more than three TV episodes (AVI format) on a DVD - that would be around three hours.
Good luck.
