I just started getting an error message when I use dvd shrink that says,"the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process." Has anyone else encountered this and if so, what can I do to remedy it?

Another program has control of the video you are trying to use, track it down and close it or reboot and fire up DVD Shrink again and it should be freed up.

This may sound foolish, but how can I find what program is using the video file, I have tried to figure it out but have had no luck. Have you any suggestions for me, I would really appreciate any help you could give. Thanks so much.

i'm guessing here, trying to pinpoint the problem; does the error look like this (from http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=181624) -
Quote: I 19:00:08 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started!
I 19:00:08 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)

E 19:00:08 Reason: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.

(DVD Decrypter can be used to autoburn from DVD Shrink ie lots of people assume DVD Shrink can burn when it can't ie it's using DVD Decrypter to burn), i've tried googling and the above error was one of a few i'd found..
..or like this, from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/223582 -

as Nero can be set to autoburn from DVD Shrink

Rebooting can free up the file as well...have you tried that yet? You should know what programs are doing what in Task Manager, do you have any Slysoft programs running or other decrypting programs that may be trying to look at your drives or files?

yes, it looks like that. I went and removed all of the other dvd copy programs on my computer and I tried to backup a dvd and it started to work and then a few seconds into it the error message came on saying the file was being used by another process.I just want to backup my dvd collection and so far I can't.....:(

Can't keep me and creaky down. :)
Try this, let DVD Shrink do it's work but choose "Hard Disc Folder" or "ISO Image File" as your output and open Imgburn and try to burn the file manually. Post the log from Imgburn.

rebette,
Locoeng and Creaky gave you good advice. To see what is running go into Device Manager and it will list all programs and processes that are running at that time. You can then disable the process or program there
