DVD Shrink quits in Vista

I installed DVD Shrink 3.2. I have Vista Ultimate. Every time I try to run DVDShrink, it gives me an error that says the following:

DVD Shrink 3.2 has stopped working.

A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.




I've tried running as administrator, changing the compatibility modes, everything I can think of. I do have Nero installed, but I'm not getting the same error as those other threads are talking about.

Have you tried unchecking the Burn with Nero checkbox?

Edit -> Preferences -> File I/O tab -> uncheck "Enable Burning with Nero"


Also have you tried uninstalling with the Shrink uninstaller inside the Shrink folder and then reinstalling?


Do you have a Vista compliant version of Nero installed?

I figured out what the problem was. Shrink wasn't starting up at all. When I clicked on the shortcut, it would give me the error before ever starting the program. The reason for this was something called "Data Execution Prevention."

The way to turn this off is to go to Control Panel\System and click on Advanced System Settings. You click on Settings in the Performance box. Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab and click Add on the bottom. Then you find the exe for Shrink and add it to this list.

(I'm typing this up for the benefit of anybody else who has had this problem)
