I have posted this topic in the ps3 board aswell so I can get both sides of the story, the topic can be found here:

Im not sure whether to buy a 360 or a ps3. My friends say that the 360 is better and I should get that but I am very intersted in the ps3. Honestly whats everyones opinions about the 360, and what could be better about it or feel free to point out the ps3s bad points to me. I dont know much about the 360 to be honest and have grew up with the psone and ps2 so im leaning towards the ps3 because im used to it and im not sure what the 360 has to offer.
Thanks.

If you're big on graphics, then the PS3 is the way to go.. The 360 has amazing graphics as well, when used with HD, but PS3 is slightly better.
I can't say much about the PS3, I don't own one, I've only played it.
Also.. the 360 is far less expensive altogether, don't know if you're a hardcore gamer where 'price doesn't matter', but I know I wouldn't buy the PS3 mainly because of the cost.

Im not that bothered about graphics, there important but not as much as story and gameplay. I can get a ps3 for £350 with 2 games, Im not sure how much a 360 would cost though, there are different versions of it isnt there? premium, core, elite wich is the best?

Personally I haven't bought either.. I think the selection of games for both is very poor.
What you should do is get an xbox and a ps2. Mod them both and they will see you right for gaming for at least the next 5 years.
In this gen of consoles the only one I would even consider is the Wii.. purely on the games.

I have both consoles and my Xbox 360 gets WAY more play time. BTW multi-plat games nearly always play and look better on Xbox 360. With what's on the market right now it a flat out lie to say PS3 has better graphics than what Xbox 360 can do. I have a PS3 soley, because there's a few exclusives only on PS3, but I still sometime second guess the purchase. At least I can say I'm a PSWii60 owner.

Its kinda dumb to say that multi-console games look better on the x-box. Of course they do, the PS3 versions are just ports. The quality is determined by the developers, and they shouldn't be used to make a judgment on PS3 graphics. Look at heavenly sword or lair, and Ratchet and clank. Its not even been a year, and the games look awesome, something the 360 couldn't say a year into its life. That said, as I have said before, there are definitely advantages for the 360. I just don't like people saying graphics aren't good on what is basically an emulation of the 360.

Get a ps3 if you like remakes, sequals, games being made for the ps2 as well, or games that are being updated and released in October for the new year via the 08 game.

To decide what console you want simply check on the net for console exclusives. I have the wii 360 and ps3. I have a HD 42" TV. The PS3 is hooked up HDMI and the 360 is hooked up HD component RGB. The HDMI is technichly supposed to be better. The 360 and PS3 Graphics look the same. Don't let anyone try to tell you any different. So the only question you would need to ask is "is there any games that are exclusive that I can't miss out on?" If your a final fantasy fan go for PS3 or if your a halo fan go for halo. Fact of the matter is right now the PS3 has almost NO GAMES right now. Only thinf in my opinion that makes the PS3 different is the new Playstation HOME thats going to be released free for the console which is a virtual world like second life. Well there is my opinion. I think xbox 360 rocks hard and the rest are just plain weak right now.

Dumb huh? Oh ok. It's quite rare for anyone to be in a position to insinuate anything like that towards me, especially some "newbie" here, but whatever. Maybe I'll let it slide without totally breaking everything single technical aspect of both consoles and seeing what you have to say each if you can keep up. Now on what I really have to say.
I've looked at Lair and Heavenly Sword. In case you forgot or didn't notice I have both consoles buddy. Both of those game look nice. Heck Heavenly sword looks flat out great, but there's some slowdown here and that when the action gets hectic which surprised me. I'm judging by current exclusives and I'm not going to ignore the fact multi-plats generally look better on 360, because the situation is what it is regardless of the "port" excuse.
Lastly please at least try to know what you are talking about. Hell Kameo a 2 year old launch game looks better than most of what's on PS3 right now. Here's a another news flash. Xbox 360 has a better GPU than PS3. Don't believe me? Ok. Read for yourself.

i have both consoles and the 360 is played almost all the time my ps3 just sits there as i am waiting for some decent games to come out (which i hope they will eventually).
if you want to play all sorts of games the 360 has more to offer at the moment so buy a 360 and then next year get a ps3 when hopefully there are games out there for you to play on it.
normally pissed off

The thing is 600 bucks would be worth it if it was truly great but right now the PS3 is hurting for games. Online is free but not as in depth as cool as xbox live. The 360 has plenty of games and of course Halo 3. I would at this point go with the 360. The PS3 has only one strong point. MGS4!!!
Insert clever sig here

@ Memnock
I really didn't mean to offend anyone here, and yes, I probably shouldn't have said 'dumb.' However, from what I understood from your post, you were saying, "BTW multi-plat games nearly always play and look better on Xbox 360. With what's on the market right now it a flat out lie to say PS3 has better graphics than what Xbox 360 can do." Which to me sounds like, 'Multi-plat games are always better on 360 (which is what they are almost always developed for) and thusly PS3 has inferior graphics.' I can understand if you meant those to sentences to be completely unrelated though, so I apologize. However, PS3 and 360 work differently in the graphics department. I agree Kameo is a beautiful, and is often overlooked. One more thing, having a lot of posts doesn't make you smart, but I will concede. Peace?

I always like peace better than war. ;)
Now I know a high post doesn't indicate intelligence, but a the posts themselves can. I think I have both going for me here. The thing is I've seen so many fanboys going on about how great PS3 is without and technical facts to back them up other than Blu ray storage space or 360 high failure rate. It's sad and quite annoying, but when I see the word dumb and my name getting thrown around with it all I calling that out. Regardless, don't sweat it. We're cool.

Ponder this quote from a "HL DEV"
Quote: The PlayStation 3 is a very powerful machine. Currently, the entire game itself is being run on solely the RSX and not even the SPU's! This is also given in light of the fact that the game is definitely intense in it's graphics, but also intense in its physics as well. Now imagine all that running solely on RSX, without the slightest NEED for the SPU's. A truly wondrous machine.
For the 360, we are already using close to 90-95% of its power capability, believe it or not. Crank up the physics on the 360, and all hell breaks loose. At the moment, we've reached 95% recognized power on the 360 and the PS3 is still a complete blank for us, considering only the RSX is being used for everything.
As for you Memnock while the situation has been addressed and worked out I have to add to watch your "newbie" attitude. His points where extremely valid especially this one

Yup it's fine now. I always try my might to work things out rationally and amicably, but I'm not going to let anyone call me dumb without calling them out. I certainly wouldn't be anywhere where I was expected to do so. So no more newbie calling from me and no more dumb calling from him.

I would recommend bying whatever system has the games you like. I have all 3 and play all 3. I am currently playing Heavenly Sword, Metroid 3, and Halo 3, among other games. Though I know its not an affordable route for everyone to take, its a good fit for me because I like having the options of playing anything avaiable on the market. As it stands now, form the games out there, I think 360 has the best variety of games out, the Wii has the funnest games to play out, and the PS3 has the best games coming to it in the future. Like someone posted earlier, if you like Halo get a 360, if you like Final Fantasy get a PS3. I happen to like both, and Zelda as well.

xbox 360 - nice games plenty for now
ps3 - stable machine no red ring + great capability
if this is a one time situation get the ps3 remember this things are in the market for about 4 or 5 year, remeber the ps1 then the ps2 also 5 years. So there's plenty of time for ps3 development as graphics raise the theri quality the ps3 wil be able to handle it while i'm not sure if the 360 will . it's your chocice at the end. but if you get gifts all the time then get both :)
