problems connecting my stereo to my ps3 through dolby digital.....HELP PLEASE!!

i wana connect my ps3 to my stereo through a dolby digital cable but it dont seem to work, i plug it in my ps3 and stereo, go t settings, change the sound to dolby digital(optical) and them i get no sound...!!

any ideas of what im doin wrong??

both the ps3 and my stereo spport dolby digital(optical)
i have a dolby digital(optical) cable
i baught it from GAME for about £9.99

so if any 1 can help me id appriciate it, thanks

mabye the stereo isnt on the proper setting?

well i cant really c if being the stereo because i have tape, cd and this other 1 called aux, i put it on the aux when i av the cable in but no sound???

Is there any more settings on the AUX like CDR/DVD?
Like my own stereo, there was different button combinations to select different inputs.
Is the digital optical connection on your stereo an INPUT or OUTPUT?
