I am experiencing extremley slow download speeds with emule less than 0.01kb/s but edonkey works fine. I have a lot of temp files I wanted to convert over to edonkey if there's a easy way this can be done that would be wonderfull. Thanks

Slow downloads?

Got a lot of files?

Move the .part files into folders, about 200 or so pairs of .part and .part.met files. If you see any .bak files, delete them. They're not needed.

Select one of the folders by changing the folder for temp files in your program of choice. You will need to quit and re-load the program in order for the selection to take place.

You can select the eMule temp folder as the temp folder for eDonkey2000 or Overnet by selecting the option in the Files menu.

Note: some eMule mods will not upload properly to eDonkey, sending garbage to those not in the "community" set and clients not included in the communication set. DO NOT USE THESE MODDED EMULE VERSIONS, AS THIS BRINGS SECULARIZATION TO THE OPEN P2P SYSTEM. These type of mods generally will ignore requests made by the excluded clients, and/or transmit parts containing gibberish.

In Overnet or its eDonkey2000 hybrid, make sure you select "Use old part file system" so that the files load upon restart. This refers to the method of storing temp files. The old method puts all the files into one directory tree. In case of disaster, recovering from this directory would be problematic as the files are spread across leaves in the file directory tree. The new method is to put the part and met file pairs into individual folders. By placing the files into individual directory leaves, when one leaf goes bad, the other files are safe as they are located on separate leaves.

When you load Overnet or its eDonkey2000 hybrid with the eMule tempfiles, the tempfiles are automatically converted, and cannot be converted back, as Overnet and its eDonkey2000 hybrid changes the way it writes the tempfiles. You might see the tempfiles swell up in size, as parts are located. This method of writing the temp files makes for reduced hash time at startup and completion of the download.
