Has anyone been able to use a hard drive with an enclosure to connect to the PS3? I have a WD 3.5 sata 250gb hardrive and I have inserted it into a Bytecc hard drive enclosure. THe second I connect it to the ps3 usb, the little circle at the top right comes up and then disapears. It seems as if the system recognizes that a device was added, but it doesnt give any indication that the hard drive is available for use. I think I may have to reformat it because Im pretty sure its not a Fat32 partition. Im hoping thats the only issue. I Have a driver cd, but the disk is one of those mini disks and Im not sticking that think in the PS3. even hesitant on burning the drivers to a normal size cd and applying the drivers, cuz Im hesitant that installing the drivers will alter the ps3 in some way. If anyone has done this before, please let m e know.
Oh yeah, I know not to do that. But I did get it to recognize on my pc without installing the drivers, which I shouldnt have needed to do in the first place. it is partitioned for NTFS so Im hoping thats the only issue. I have partition magic and will repartition it for Fat32, once I get home later today. hope this helps. I dont want to open the PS3 just to put in an extra 90GB's. thats just not enough for me. I may wait until something bigger comes out. considering that it is an external drive, im also hoping that the 7400rpm wont matter when it comes to the PS3 getting too hot.
So i guess I answered my own question. Just wanted to confirm. I hope someone comes out with a larger 2.5 hard drive. that way I wont have to go through all of this using an external hard drive. as big as the hard drives are now, I would assume they would have a 2.5 hard drive bigger than 250gb's!!!
Thats what it was. I jsut reformatted it for Fat32 and the PS3 recognizes it. One thing I dont like is you cant download games (example games from the PSstore) to the external hard drive, only the internal. Which is prolly a good reason for that but it would have been good if you could. hopefully it will be in a system update.
this is a tutorial for how to upgrade your PS3 Hard drive, not exactly what you're asking about but one step involves the use of an HDD enclosure, so it may be worth looking at in order to either upgrade or utilize the HD
