Minus "A Mighty Heart," I ripped these movies as described in my signature. No problems again.

i hope you're going to think twice about discussions re cracking....
edit- i see you'd already been warned re cracking discussions, rent & burn discussions, and you've then added multiposting to your rap sheet..

i'm relatively new to using DVDFab, i've gotten so accustomed to the Ripit4Me/shrink combo. anyway, i went to backup my copy of Transformers and wanted to burn it to a DL disc. i went to open imgburn, and when i clicked the green arrow to begin the process, it said i do not need to use a DL disc, and it will fit on a DVD+-R disc just fine. but i know that it wont, because the calculator button on imgburn said it was 96% full.
so my question is, is there something in the options menu that im missing in DVDFab that will enable me to burn with ImgBurn? thanks again for all you guys help!

The kids are going crazy because they want to watch Transformers but I'm unable to back it up. I normally use DVD Decrypter to get the movie on my hard drive and CloneDVD2 to write it back onto a DVD. CloneDVD2 will write to about 30% and it quits. Since this is a DVD+R DL it hurts when you "waste" a disc. I tried DVD Shrunk 3.2 to write the movie to a different hard drive but I don't want to write it if it's going to fail. My AnyDVD is the latest version.
I not sure what to try next... Any ideas?
Thanks!

The process listed in my signature is how I go about backing up my movies. If you got AnyDVD, try ripping it first through its ripper and go from there. Obviously, I picked up this movie and backed it up without any problems. The 2nd disc was stacked too (was considering a DL but declined).
Anyway, try that first and take it from there.

I want to use a DVD+R DL for the backup so the "carpet crawlers" can watch it on our big plasma tv and in the van. They will watch this movie atleast a hundred times so it's worth the extra cost of a DL disc. What I hate is when the write fails and you have to trash it!

What is the filesize you have ripped to the hard drive that you're wanting to burn? Unless you set DVD Shrink to DVD9 or selected No Compression for the entire video, you may have shrunk the files while ripping them. In which case you wouldn't need a DVD DL.
All anyone needs is a good decryption program and ImgBurn to do a DL backup. DVDFab HD Decrypter and ImgBurn make for one of the best packages and they're free. AnyDVD is okay, but it's retail and not really needed unless a driver type decrypter is worth the purchase price. Ripping with DVD Shrink should never be necessary for a DL backup. Used to be using Shrink would straighten up some DVD compatiblilty errors, but FixVTS or VobBlanker make more sense for such errors. Shrink is handy for transcoding (shrinking) and minor editing, but other than that, find an appropriate program.
A good reason not to use DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink alone for doing backups is because the decryption software portion of the programs are obsolete. With DVD Decrypter, even the burner program is behind ImgBurn (the updated Decrypter burner ware by the same author). There have been a lot of new copy protection introduced since the Shrink and DVD Decrypter lost support and were no longer updated. Even RipIt4Me has encountered a few movies it can't do following the short period since it lost support.

Hello everyone,
Unable to burn 4 disc that I bought saturday.
One is in Japensese and I am takeing it back for exchange.
The other three is Transformers, Planet Terror and Decadent Evil.
I have Slyfox Any Dvd , Clone Dvd and Dvd Fab Decryptor, Dvd Shrink and IMG Burn.
All programs will not recoginise disc's.
I have had very good luck with these programs for well over a year and little by little my copies have been far and few between.
My DMA is on and I am doing nothing different in recording.
This is all very frustrating because I don't know where to go from here.
I have been putting this letter off for two monts, trying to figure it out myself.
Any help would be great.

The software should at least recognize the discs and give an error if there's a problem, i.e. Shrink has encountered an error and can not proceed. Do the DVDs play okay on your PC player software, PowerDVD or whatever? Is all your software up to date? You mentioned DVDFab Decrypter and it was replaced by DVDFab HD Decrypter a while back. Currently DVDFab HD Decrypter (free from DVDIdle), DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn are all that's needed for a decent backup and they're all freeware. AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 are nice options. Remember to keep them updated. Currently DVDIdle with DVDFab HD Decrypter is doing a better job of keeping up with new copy protections than Slysoft.

3.2.1.0 is the last DVDFab HD Decrypter version.

Media Player isn't for playing DVD movies. Get a player program and see if the problem discs are recognized and will play. Try the WinDVD8 trial from InterVideo or the PowerDVD trial from cyberlink. How do the problem DVDs play on a standalone player?

Just putting my two cents in-
Usually use-
RipIt4Me
DVD Shrink
Have two DVD drives
-Sony DRU-720a
-Internal Toshiba drive on laptop
The Sony drive wouldn't even recognize as a disk. No prompt to play when first put in tray and when I went to My Computer it said the disc was not a recognized format. So I tried the internal drive and it froze up BOTH Shrink and RipIt4Me.
After flipping the disc back and forth again between drives I finally realized that I get a play prompt with my internal drive. Instead of clicking cancel or play or anything I left the pop up window open and tried RipIt4Me and it read it right away.
Currently backing it up now and don't expect anymore problems.
