I got my ps3 today, the 60gb one, and ive been trying to get it online. Im using an ethernet cable from the ps3 to the back of my pc, not the modem, in another network card I installed. When setting up the internet like i.p address and stuff and then it tests the connection it says the ip detection is succesful but it cant connect. It says its a DNS error and the error code (80710102) comes up.
Im using 62.31.144.39 as the primary and 195.188.53.175 as the secondary. Im not too good at network stuff so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I do not want to use a router and I cant connect one up to my pc anyway because off problems, id rather use a wire anyway.
Any help please, I cant play online, make a PSN account or download system updates until this is resolved.
Thanks.

Why can?t you use a router? I haven?t got a ps3 but to me using a router would be the easiest solution you don?t need the computer on then to go on line with your playstation and when you use a router no need to set up any ip addresses or any shit like that I use one for all the computers in the house 4 in total job done

I dont know, my isp couldnt sort the problem out neither could people on afterdawn, my modem was replaced for a new one and still wont work. I've tried 2 different routers, linksys and belkin and both have the same issue. They both work fine for like 3 minutes then it disconnects itself. I've tried so many different things and all of them have failed so ive just gave up with routers for life now.
I dont mind having a wired connection to my ps3, I just wish I could get it working even just a little bit. Its really really doing my head in now, im missing out on alot more stuff without the internet access and online. Without them the ps3 is just a tarted up ps2 with better looks and games.
If anyone on here has a wired connection could you tell me what settings a stuff you use.
Just to recap, It says IP connect successful then fails on internet connection and says this is a DNS error, ive used the dns numbers from my pcs network as these are the only dns numbers I can find.
Any help please im so desperate right now.

A tarted up ps2... JUST better LOOKS of games lol the ps3 is more than that!
I dont think you can connect your ps3 to your pc and your pc to your phone line mate, you need either a router and use ethernet or a router and configure the settings properly for wireless.

Nah I know its more than that, by far! Its just I cant use half of my ps3 because of this stupid error. At the minute Id be happy to have my ps3 connected and my pc not, and switch over every now and then.

Oh yeah sorry for double post. I heard your pc and ps3 could go online at the same time by doing a network bridge on your pc. Which ive tried and it failed, I select my 2 network cards that are in my pc and bridge the connections but I still get the same error.

Have you given all your devices Static IP addresses? instead of Bridging you could also try Internet Connection Sharing which is in the Advanced tab of your connections Properties window.

I dont know how to set static ips up, I think my pc internet ip is static anyway. Ill try that internet sharing option, and ive updated the ps3 to version 1.93 using my psp memory stick. So maybe that will help.

That could very easily be the problem, if the IP address settings are set to Automatic on the ps3 loads of things might not work.

Everything has to have its own I.P address, that would be a big problem. For Default Router try it first with your Modems IP address and if that doesnt work try it with your PC's IP address.
I have the exact same setup as you do, except my connection between PC and PS3 is wireless.

only thing now is, ziggi was right, you can only have either the pc or ps3 online at the same time, so i have to keep switching them whenever the pc isnt in use by someone else.
There must be a way to do it somehow, if I have 2 network cards then couldnt I use one for PC and one for PS3?
I tried a network bridge again and the pc internet will work but the ps3 says network error.
Im gonna try and get a router working again, ill try the linksys one i havnt tried for a while.
The setup at the minute isnt ideal but its alot better than no internet or online play at all.
Thanks again.

If you?ve got broadband I?ve got ntl cable I take it you have since you said you?ve used a Ethernet cable just get a router plug your cable modem Ethernet cable in the back of the router then on the front of the router depending on which one you buy there is 4 or 5 etc extra Ethernet ports just plug the playstaion in to one of them no need to set up any isp addresses etc because the cable modem has its own set up by your provider

Routers wont work on my pc for some reason, they always work for 5 minutes then disconnect themselves, everytime, even after a new modem which fixed my internet problems but not the router problem.

When you had a router did you have all your IP addresses set as Static (not auto) the router might be trying to renew your IP address causing something to stuff up.

Sorry I dont remember but im gonna try the router again tomorrow and set it all to static and see if that works. Ive gotta get up at 7am tomorrow and its 1.41am now so I need to sleep :D
Oh well I finish college early tomorrow so Ill have more time to try and sort it out.
Oh yeah and ive been hearing about using a crossover cable instead of the ethernet cable, going from the ps3 to the 2nd network card in the pc and network bridging, would this work? I dont wanna buy a crossover cable and find out it doesnt work anyway.
Thanks.

You don?t need the pc on to use a router that?s the whole idea of them so if the router disconnects after 5mins either a problem with the router or a problem with the modem it?s connected to if you have played about with the settings in the router configuration put them all back to auto try the router with the computer turned off?

I got my linksys router working! :) It couldn't detect my internet connection so I shut pc, modem and router down. Then I turned the modem on, then the router then the pc and it worked! But there is a problem, its limiting my torrent download speed, but ill post a topic in the appropriate section. Thanks everyone.

A router has no control on limiting down load or upload speed its either your broadband provider or you?ve not got your torrent software set up correct also make sure there is enough seeds when you are downloading if not enough it will run slow

Actually, if his router is blocking ports then his speeds will be slower. go to http://portforward.com/routers.htm to find a port fowarding guide for your router.
