Hi; I need help with DVD shrink. I have ripped the DVD's with DVD Decrypter and have DVD fab installed to burn. The problem is when I go to open DVD shrink, the program goes black when it opens and I have to use alt/f4 to close it. I have changes the properties to 'run in win 98 mode, 256 colors and 640 x 480 and this lets me see the page so I can disable 'burn with nero', but as soon as I load my DVD files it goes black again. Using Win XP, pretty fresh install, behind WEP. Am at wits end as I was using DVDXcopy but it is no longer supported and was so easy....Thanks in advance for any help

Have you tried using the DVD Shrink uninstaller located inside the DVD Shrink program folder to uninstall and then doing a fresh reinstall after a restart?

Yes ... it almost acts like it doesn't want to show up and I can't figure out why the program will start in win 98 mode, 256, 640 x 480 but still go black when loading the ripped files... I have a nvidia video with a nvidia driver, not windows... I'll try again but it has me very puzzled

I have read so much about this program freezing and having problems with Nero... but this is not the same... Does it matter that I have Nero 7 and DVDXcopy Plat. (cracked) on my system? DVDXcopy will copy but when it asks for a blank disc to write, it gives an error and shuts down. Also, any windows updates lately that effect these programs?? Thanks..Frustrated smerts33

There's lots of transcoders, Shrink just happens to be the best free one. Why would you want to work with Shrink and have DVDFab to burn? Platinum has the burner and it's a 1 click deal, including what Shrink does. HD Decrypter has no burn feature.

We don't discuss cracked programs here at AD. I will tell you that cracked programs can cause a lot of trouble for a system. Try removing all the recording software, including the DVDXCopy. Run a registry cleaner and any other cleanup software you may have. Then reinstall Shrink and see how it works.

Nero Recode also does the same thing as DVD Shrink (same author) if you have the Nero suite. I'm with PacMan though, uninstall all the DVD software and clean the system. If that doesn't work you might as well backup the data, reformat the HDD, and reinstall the OS. That'll guarantee a fresh start. I suspect one of the other programs is interferring with Shrink and wouldn't be surprised if the culprit is XCopy.
