After installing the wiikey chip onto my wii i can run real wii games but cant run any of the config disks or the update disk. I have updated my wii to the latest firmware and had tried tdk disks and other dvds with ritek ink at varryin speeds using pretty much every method i can find on these forums. (multi game boot disk, using fixsize/filechop etc). and i dont have 1 of the lg dvd drives u apparently need to make a backup game so i cant try that.
anyone please have summat else i can try? i have a large stack of coasters now.

Just sounds like the chip isn't installed correctly - have you checked all the connections?

Maybe try get hold of some verbatim -r. Disks with Ritek dye can be good but they aren't all good.

I dunno what else you can try m8 - if different media doesn't solve the problem then I would have to guess that the chip is bad :S

Use this to create multi-disc and then launch config disc from there. From what I have read after you update the Wii past I believe 3.0 it has a problem recognizing the wiikey config disc, something to do with the region seetings or something like that.

What is your Wii's firmware version?

If it is 3.0 or 3.1 (E, J, or U, depending on your region), then the config disc will not work without a workaround.

There are two workarounds, one is using a GameCube controller and GCOS (GameCube OS) and the other is a Hex'd version that requires two DVDs.

EDIT: Sorry I read your post a little quickly, you did mention you updated your Wii to the latest firmware (3.1).

Would it really be the workarounds that are required, the updates should still work with 3.x, isn't just the config disks that wont and most backups should work as well (I think), you could try the two workarounds, I would also suggest buying some different media and trying different writing speeds.

Heres links to the two threads on here about the workarounds,

The GCOS disk,

The hacked disk, bottom of the second page posted by AtiLaw,
