hey people ive been trying my hardest i even emailed datel but they thought i had a firewall so i guess this piece of information would be useful to some people.

?Unable to obtain IP Address? from the DHCP server usually means there is a firewall (hardware or software) somewhere that is set to refuse to allow other computers to connect to the network ? it does this by not giving an IP address to a computer that is trying to connect to the network.

The firewall could be a software firewall like Zonealarm on the users PC, or a firewall built into the users hardware like a router, or even on the motherboard (like Nvidia NForce chipsets). Or, if the user is on a network then the firewall could be on the DHCP server itself or just before the connection to the outside world. You need to reconfigure your firewall to allow a connection ? contact the firewall provider for information as to how.

The only other thing to consider is if your broadband account uses static IP addresses (as in not Dynamic IP addresses). This is very rare and usually only the case for people with business broadband connections that have servers on (they host web pages, and hence need a static IP address). In this case you need to assign an IP address on your network (or from your provider) and enter this in the PSP/NDS settings.

As for me im still having the smae problems as before.

ok, i just want to clear this up, when it says "Ip can not be obtained......it times out..." well this could mean a number of things:

1) a saystem firewall could be stopping it

2)you havnt set up the connection to be shared

3) you are having a low connectivity this means your based internet connection wont transfer the settings.

4) you have the wrogn settings on Your ZDLan programme.

Anyone else can add to this, but these are the main probelms i see many people having. The thing is people use this thread but they dont reply back wehn they get it working and post some helpful troubleshoot. Thats why we dont see the varied problem...

i have had my Wifi max for a few weeks now, all working fine and dandy(unusually). Then, yesterdey, when i formatted my pc, and installed XP professional, its not working. Im getting IP timeouts left right and centre. I have followed almost everytihng on this board(will try the rest tomorrow) but i dont know if this would have anything to do with it????

http://www.jacksonwillis.co.uk/help.JPG

If it helps im using XP proffesional, cant autoupdate it, its not getting SP2) With Wifi Max & NTL broadband (set top box)

also, in my internet sharing settings there is no DCHP, but there was before the reformat. PLEASE HELP BEFORE I USE MY PSP AS A FRISBEE.

Try turning WLAN power save to off, that should clear it up.

If the key you have contains a number, it is not a WEP Key, it is WPA. You must configure your router to use WEP encryption instead of WPA.

I'm suffering from the IP timeout problem as well. After following all the advice in this thread, I think I've found the source of the problem - but haven't found an answer to it.

It seems that ZDWLan isn't picking up my modem to act as a bridge adapter. It was picking up a dormant LAN card, but I disabled that. Nothing has appeared in its place though.

My modem is an Alcatel SpeedTouch USB model (the green turtle thing), and there's no problem with the connection in any other way. I'm running XP Professional.

I saw that someone else had a similar problem earlier with the software not detecting the modem, but I couldn't find any posts with a solution.

Help?

EDIT: I've disabled my firewall, so I know that's not the problem.

Typical. Just when you cave in and ask for help, you stumble on the answer. Updated my modem drivers. Modem still doesn't show up as a bridge adaptor, but all of a sudden the wireless connection works.

Can't say I'm impressed with the user friendliness of the device, but I'll see how it performs now I've finally got the damn thing to work.

Though, frankly, if I'd realised it was a Datel product I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.
