We already know Shrink can't get it done with the new protections. In fact it hasn't been able to handle ARccOS since it came along, much less the heavier protection we're seeing now. Only the newest of the noobs don't know they need a secondary decryption program with Shrink and use Shrink only for transcoding and editing. It's nothing to do with ego, just wising up to the way the software works. AnyDVD worked until recently, now RipIt4Me and DVDFab Decrypter are the better choices. I go with RipIt4Me which incorporates FixVTS for compliance processing. It's more a sure thing. I'm not putting your favorite DVDFab Decrypter down. It's been getting the job done after if finally caught up last month.

This is the Shrink forum and files from RipIt4Me work with it as well as those from DVDFab Decrypter. As for Casino Royale, the backup depends only on the correct use of the software. The copy protection can be bypassed by most of the common decryption software. Shrink can't do the decryption on its own. Some software won't work with some transcoders, i.e. AnyDVD and Shrink. That pretty much sums up this thread and various members contributed to helping different members. I don't think there is any more help really needed for Casino Royale, unless someone needs to learn how to use a specific program. Those topics would be better addressed in another thread.

From the title it's a Casino Royale help thread. As long as the users stay on topic, more than one person can be helped. I didn't know threads had to be isolated to helping one member. It's only fair though that the original request for help be honored. But like many threads, it has continued past the original request.

ImolaZHP was given the correct solution at the beginning of the last page. Also, ImolaZHP wasn't the one who started the thread, princedvd was. I think just about everyone who asked received help. But Casino Royale as a help topic has been covered and become worn.

Tried using Ripit4me and all I got was a DVD coaster.

AnyDVD was able to copy the files to my hard drive and I can watch it from there but that's it. AnyDVD wasn't on when using Ripit.

Did you use the Full DVD rip mode and the 1-Click processing when you opened the DVD with RI4M? I've done about all the heavily protected new releases with RipIt4Me and not a problem. You said you got a coaster, does that mean that RipIt4Me did the quick analysis in Shrink? If so, your problem may lie elsewhere. RI4M is finished when the files are opened in Shrink. Plus, enough people have claimed success to know the software works. Did you get any error messages when you burned your coaster? RI4M makes logs, would you like to post that? However, if it opened the files successfully in Shrink, that may not tell us anything. What software did you burn with?

You might be able to use FixVTS to process the AnyDVD generated files you have on the HD and then burn them. Shrink will usually let you know if the files are compliant. Shrink and AnyDVD haven't been working well together lately (repeated more times than I care to remember). Have you tried CloneDVD 2 with your AnyDVD. Slysoft and its fans are fond of saying they're made for each other.

When I used ripit4me (to rip casino royale) these where my steps

Ripit4me-wizard mode.........
main movie or full dvd doesnt matter
dont skip any steps...

create psl file ....
it will open DVDDecrypter select above MAIN MOVIE ONLY

let it rip to your HD and before cleaning the VOB files for errors... use fixvts, choose the VOB file and click fulldvd

after this do the next step cleaning the void cells in the rip and open with Nero recode2
its that simple
I HAD NO LUCK with the 1click mode in ripit4me, only wizard mode...do what works for you

first, for those of you that are getting annoyed by all the questions - i am sorry but i can understand other people's frustrations. for those of you who helped - thank you very much and i apologize if it seemed that i threadjacked even though i believe i was on topic.

for those of you who cant copy this still, follow the RipIt4me directions to a T (except dont download the version from the pdf link search for the latest version through this site) and you will be ok. i tried recording the ENTIRE DVD and that did NOT work. however, when i did movie only it was fine. if you are trying to record the entire dvd then you may be out of luck, if not, then you should be fine following the exact steps as outlined. good luck to you all.

You didn't highjack the thread. I believe the first poster got what they were looking for and the staff likes to see questions on a particular movie stay in one thread instead of having a big bunch of the same. Saw 3 and the sticky comes to mind. So don't let that bother you.

There was some problem earlier with the pdf software link in bbmayo's guide, but he said he cleared that up. So the software link should be usable. The advantage to the Shrink version in that software package is that it supports the newer ImgBurn instead of the DVD Decrypter burner ware. Other than that, it doesn't matter as long as the Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and RipIt4Me are installed in the right order.

I'm surprised you could only do movie only. That usually indicates something went wrong and some copy protection may have gotten through. I did this one without a problem in Full DVD. Some people think the program has stopped and abort the process. I set back and waited and it got the job done. It took about 28 minutes on this one and the beginning was very slow due to the bogus VTS involved. The DVD Decrypter was initially reading it would take several hours for the rip and a few times looked like it stalled. Knowing the time changes during the process, I waited. Did you have the Preferences checked as in the guide with Full DVD as the rip mode and opened the DVD in the 1-Click mode? Where in the process did you run into trouble?

I did the one-click mode and I didn't get any errors but my drives wouldn't recognize the disk when the programs had finished with the burn.

I was successful getting the movie only by using AnyDVD to rip it to a folder on my hard drive and then using shrink in Re-author mode to back-up the movie only. Shrink wouldn't read the files by using open files button.

Casino Royale will not work in my computer. The drive doesn't even see it in the disc drive. I'm using AnyDVD and it just keeps spinning away and never reads the disc. It won't even play the movie using movie players..... Is this something new from Sony?

PacMan777,

Thanks for the response. I did not run into problems with the software itself. I waited the entire way until all was done and Shrink popped open. basically the Video_TS and iso files that i was creating in full mode would not play. i followed everything in the pdf guide to a T both when i did full dvd and movie only and only the latter worked. it was baffling cuz it should have worked but it didnt. at this point it really does not matter as i am happy enough with the movie only back up.

thanks again for all of your guys' help. this forum is very helpful and i appreciate the info provided.

just to let u know VobBlanker does the same thing that FixVTS does, so u dont need to use both, when blanking trailer and extras VobBlanker also corrects the structure too.

With FixVTS already incorporated into RipIt4Me, it's easier to just let the program do the job in the one click mode and wait for it to open in Shrink. With the movie only and movie + menu rip modes in RipIt4Me, it even makes editing content easier.

I'm not knocking DVDFab Decrypter or FixVTS. I have them both. I just find RipIt4Me has been a sure thing with the newer protections and everything is simplified in one package.
@ 300Bowler; PacMan;

Here is what I did when I made my backups of CR & STF;

I used VobBlanker to delete extras & alternate languages in the menu on Casino Royale, and PGCEdit to delete uncalled PGC's, then FixVTS to clean up after doing some bulk removal.

In my backup of Stranger Than Fiction, I wanted to remove the previews, plus some extras that oddly enough contained no audio and were duplicate copys. But I kept most extras, the movie & menu. After using VobBlanker todo the job, I used PGCEdit to remove uncalled PGC's & delete the FBI warning. After removing the pgc's I cleaned it up with FixVTS.

Is this not what I should be doing to clean up my backups and remove as much space as I want to??

You didn't rip in ISO mode did you? If Shrink won't open the files with Open Files it means they're not in the right format. Not being in a Video_TS folder is one possibility and being in an ISO Image is another. Did you check the include Video_TS in the RipIt4Me preferences?

dvdfiddle
Does the DVD play okay in your standalone player? If the disc is not playing in a number of drives, it would indicate a bad disc. It could be a faulty press anyway, some DVDs play but won't work on a PC drive. Most people are able to play Casino Royale and record it. That leaves likely possibilities of a bad disc, a bad drive, or both.

ra0ulduke
Nothing wrong if you like doing all that editing. Since you're doing the editing and having to process for compliance, you don't need to do it twice. You may want to consider ripping with DVDFab Decrypter and then open the files for editing. It's quicker and doesn't include FixVTS processing. It will save you a few minutes on each job. My point was only that most people like doing a job without having to repeat steps. There's nothing wrong with doing the job with RipIt4Me though. If it works and you like doing it your way, that's what counts.

ImolaZHP
Glad you got your backup and satisfied with the end result. I was just curious. If the files open in the Shrink Quick Analysis, that usually indicates the files are compliant. Sounds like something may have happened somewhere else in the process. What was your Shrink target selection? Did you mention having problems with the pdf link for the software? Where did you get your version of DVD Shrink?

the link in the pdf file gave me old software that did not install properly. the software itself told me that it did not install correctly and that is how i knew there was a problem. consequently i did a search on the forum and found the new version which installed w/o problems.

Thanks, you answered the question on the problem pdf link.

If you got the version here at AD, that means it is more than likely the original 3.2, which means you couldn't follow the bbmayo guide exactly. You would have had to compensate.

What did you have your target set for and which version of Shrink do you have? Does it have Create ISO Image and burn with DVD Decrypter as a target option? Also, do you have include Video_TS checked in your preferences?

It makes some difference. Your viewer may not play the ISO image unless it's mounted in a virtual drive. I have Nero and ImgBurn, so my output depends on which program I'm going to use. When I go with burn with Nero it burns the Shrink output as a Video_TS (file) folder using the Burning ROM. If I use ImgBurn, I go with create ISO and burn with ImgBurn. It's just an auto burn and the image is still on the drive. Once the ISO is created, it shouldn't make any difference if the output auto burns or you do it manually.

Have you cleaned off your ISO image yet? If not load it in a virtual drive, such as the free Daemon or one included with some suites such as Nero, and play it in your viewer. Normally if the files burn, they'll play, unless there's a bad disc or a faulty burn. Sometimes you run into compatibility issues, but that doesn't explain the movie only playing and the Full DVD not. That's probably the strangest part.

Not sure, I thought I read on here to use the one-click mode and everything would be automatic so I'm not quite sure what it actually did. I just remember seeing the various programs working and not seeing any error messages.

Check out bbmayo's RI4M guide:
http://webpages.charter.net/bacitup/TheGuides/pacman777guide.

With the original version of Shrink you don't have the option to auto burn with ImgBurn. That's why the guide has a link to a Shrink version that will. Other than the Shrink output target, the guide will be the same. The guide is written to cut compression for best results, but can be done in Full DVD. Casino Royale is a big movie, so the compression is high, the Quality Settings definitely need to be checked for best results.

I did a Full DVD backup with RipIt4Me. Instead of transcoding with Shrink, I used RB/CCE to encode. Encoders work better at higher compression levels.

By the way, RipIt4Me does work best when left alone in the 1-Click mode. However for beginners it helps to make sure some settings are checked, i.e. check the include Video_TS folder. Some programs look for the Video_TS folder and won't work without it.

I have been asked to try turning off AnyDVD and see what happens. I haven't done that yet. The dvd plays in a dvd player fine. My computer is a few years old and maybe starting to get a little mixed up perhaps.
It was not reading several dvds until I put in a data cd and then it started reading and burning dvds again... Casino..still didn't work however.. I think now, that it's not a disc problem.

There's nothing special about Casino Royale except the sheer number of bogus files included to mess up recording software. It's very similar to "Talladega Nights", "Saw 3", and some of the other Disney, Sony and Lionsgate releases.

I'd recommend you run a DVD cleaner disc in your drive. It does a simple test while cleaning. If the drive handles that okay try playing the disc again. If no go, try using another copy of Casino Royale, return you present copy for exchange. I suggest trying to do a scan of the disc if your drive will recognize it at all. Lasers do get weak over time, but they don't usually select a particular disc they don't like and play the others.
