I am thinking about getting a ps3 and i want to know if you could just connect an external hard drive to one of the usb slots and transfer music and videos to the ps3 hard drive. the hard drive is formatted in windows NTFS if that helps out also. please i looked all over and could not find out this info thanks

External hard drive must be formatted as FAT32 for it to be reconized.
Either that or try TVersity to stream your stuff to the PS3.

thanks but will my external hard drive still have the same data speed transfer speed and all the other features if i reformat the drive i know the data will be erased but will there be any other effects

Yes it will have the same speed.
The PS3,s ports are USB 2.0

If you have loads of music on your NTFS harddrive dont format it just partition it then format the empty partition to FAT32,that way you wont loose anything on your NTFS partition and youll be able to transfer from the NTFS partition to your FAT32 partition.
