Hi, I'm fairly new to burning dvd's. I have searched several forums on tips and experiences to fix multiple problems. In the past three weeks though it has been getting worse with no potential solutions.
The first problem I encountered was that I am now ripping a movie in DVDfab platinum 4 in about 1.5 hrs. and shrink is burning in about 1 hr. Before the times were 1/2 hr for ripping and then 1/2 hr-40 min to burn.
So I have looked for solutions to fix this. I have norton anti-virus and it is always on and it runs a full system scan daily, results are clean everytime. I saw someone had suggested another user with similar symptoms to run an online virus scan from Kaspersky Lab. (I only ran a scan of only the memory, Here is the result)--
Infected Object Name Virus Name Last Action
[0] [System Process] => C:\WINNT\system32\nsj22.dll Infected: not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.Agent.yr skipped
[824] firefox.exe => C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components\nsBrowserOpt.dll Infected: not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.BHO.pm skipped
[2380] iexplore.exe => C:\WINNT\system32\nsj22.dll Infected: not-a-virus:AdWare.Win32.Agent.yr skipped
I found this file (C:\WINNT\system32\nsj22.dll) and tried to delete it and it wouldn't let me. Is this file a real virus?
I have also triple checked the primary and secondary IDE channels, they have always been set at DMA if available on both devices.
MY SYSTEM- Pentium 4, 2.8 ghz, 504 MB of RAM. with 45 gig free on hard drive.
I am currently ordering more ram because I need it but at one point everything ripped and burned quick with what I have. I always delete the files after burning to free up the Hard Disk space. not sure what else to do.
Problem #2- Since the above stated trouble, I have just been burning slower and have made a few backups. Now I tried burning HSM 2 and it says everything is succesful but when I try to read the disk on my computer it just shows DVD-R in my D: drive and the properties show no room on disk. Tried putting it in my normal DVD player and it wont read the disk. So now I am lost on how to proceed. Anything I can try or tips are greatly appreciated in advance.
Thanks,

First of all shrink doesn't burn. What burning program are you using? I had a similar system as yours and I always disabled the anti virus when doing a movie. My new system is a dual core processor and I encode a movie in as little as 10 minutes. Anti virus doesn't affect my system but it did on my old one. Try verbatim blanks (made in taiwan) they work well. On your DMA, does it show just "if available" or does it show dma 2,4,5 etc? Also defragment your hard drive. Does the disk look like it is burned? I use the combination of shrink,imgburn and anydvd. Works everytime. I'm not familiar with dvd fab platinum. Maybe you'll get more suggestions from other members soon.

How can you tell if its been burned? Why is it saying there is no free space on disk but it's blank? Program? All I do is encode it in shrink and it backs up the disk (burned). I have de-fraged twice. How do you use imgburn and anydvd in the process? I uninstalled and reinstalled the IDE channels and it is alot faster. Still having trouble with the disk burning blank. I am using memorex DVD-R disks. The fist 2 worked, now 3 in a row are blank.

The Memorex disks may be made by CMC Magnetics a low cost manufacturer. It's best to avoid buying Memorex because they tend to rebrand lower cost manufacturers' media. Stick with Verbatim or any Made in Japan media.
You can tell whether a disk has been burned by examining its underside in comparison to an unburned disk. You'll notice a change in the color and it's usually darker in appearance.
To use ImgBurn, you have to set the target output as "ISO Image" after clicking the Backup! button in Shrink. You burn the outputted ISO image file with ImgBurn.
AnyDVD is a program that runs automatically in the background to strip all RCE protection as well as the various other disk copy protections. It also comes with its own ripper.
Also make sure your burner firmware is up to date.

Hi, I think I made a mistake. It seems every new memorex disk I put in before even doing anything says 0 bytes free and 0 bytes used. So even when it says it burned it, there was never any free space. Any reason it would say it's full already other than being defective? I tried the ones I thought burned and 3 new ones and they all say the same thing. Is this common to have this many in a row that are defective? I also put in a burned dvd I have from my lightscribe disks and it read it fine so I think it is probably the disks. I have not yet gotten any new disks. I have updated my firmware. Thanks for all of your assistance. It has been very helpful and keeps me learning:)

I forgot a something. I noticed on 1, maybe 2 disks a little video camera icon along with a blue bar that goes across the top of the tv off and on. It is a solid bar and stays on for about 5 sec at a time. Any ideas? Thanks

Try this. Download imgburn at www.imgburn.com. Create new folder on desk top and give it the name of your movie. In shrink do what you normally do to your movie,reauthor,full movie etc. Click back up and select create iso image file. Browse to the folder you just made on your desktop,this will put the image file there. When done encoding,start imgburn. Under mode select write. You will also notice that you can change the burn speed. Browse to the folder that has the movie (on your desktop).Now burn it. Yes it is possible to get bad blanks especially with memorex. Do yourself a favor get verbatim.

What burner do you have? Granted Memorex( actually CMC Mag.) are not quality media, is your burner's firmware up to date? If not, your burner might not be able to read the discs because of that.
Piss me off, and I Will ignore You!
