I been trying to get the best quality at a reasonable size.
I tried to rip my DVDs to Divx but they does not play properly (play but crash when rewinding and fast-forwarding and stopping) on the ps3 (I used Total Video Converter (Using both mpeg4 and xvid). I then used DVDFab Platinum 4.0.3.2's ps3 profile that uses mp4(h264(avc)+aac), three hours later a got a very good quality video that plays perfectly on my pc (using VLC Player). But when I transfer it to the ps3 I can only hear the Audio. (by the way, before converting i looked for and installed the a whole bunch of the latest codecs including those for ps3 video playback).

Why is it that I only can hear the Audio but not the Video?

when you say transfering.. do you mean you're litterally bringing it onto the ps3's hd? or just streaming? i find certain videos that have high bitrates lag or mess up when i stream from my computer but work perfectly fine on my computer via vlc player.. for instance videos i recorded with my sony digital camera.. in the high quality res mode lagged when i was streaming from my computer but when i put it directly onto the ps3's hard drive it worked perfectly fine...

My understanding is DIVX as a widly used codec and has been for some time is still not as good as X264(H264)AVC.
If your comp is powerful enough to stream HDEF content try Nero recode,s HDTV profile, if not try Xvid4psp,s PS3 profile.
