Not such good blank media there js. If it's quality DL discs you seek, get Verbatim (Made in Japan)

Check for firmware update for your burner.

Looks like a lot is going on here. It's better not to multitask whilst you burn. Keep as much memory free during the process. So don't surf, open multiple programs, listen to web based radio, etc. while burning.

You May want to slow down the Burn Speed from 6x to 4x or even 2x.

I can't find a newer firmware for this burner. It failed again and no other programs were running. I will try to turn down the burn speed. What else can I do?

@jsbeckton

You are burning a dual layer disc. For that get ImgBurn , it handles DL much better than Nero. ImgBurn is free.
Your discs are junk. Verbatims are top notch, especially if you try to burn DL.

Your Nero installation is messed up. You installed Nero 7 over Nero 6 without a clean-up. Download Nero Clean Tool, uninstall Nero and then do a clean install.

http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero7-tools-utilities.html

Follow the instructions under "More Details and Download" .

Thanks I will try IMGBURN and clean up Nero.

I have burned 700+ movies using all kinds of discs and can't really tell the difference on my 50" plasma TV. What makes Verbatim discs so much better?

I just burned the movie I was having trouble with on some Matrix discs and it burns fine. Just doesn't like these memorex discs so far but I need to use them.

You also have a a spindle servo error ( the motor that spins the disk),the speed the disc is spinning is not correct. It could be anythings from not spinning at all to not spinning at the correct speed.
It could be a problem with the motor or mechanism that clamps the disk to the spindle but it could be bad discs. If the center hole of the disc is not correct it could cause this error also(the discs become unbalanced). Make sure the cables to the burner are well connected. Definetely gat different discs.

Worst case scenario, you need a new burner.

It means never put one of those crappy discs in your burner's tray:)
It is possible the discs were faulty. A successful burn is a good sign.

When Img Burn starts to burn i get an error message:

-----------------------------------------------------------
optimal L1 data zone start LBA: None Found! (VTS_05)
This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto double layer (OTP) track path
None of the cells meet the "DVD-Video specification" criteria fpr a potential layer break position

Do you want ot continue anyways?

What does this mean?

Thanks

It has something to do with the layer break position. I personally never burned a DL, can't tell you much how to set it.
However, since you are burning onto a DL, I don't even see the point of using DVD Shrink, since you don't need to shrink for a DL disc.Just rip to your HDD and burn those files with ImgBurn. Unless you use DVD Shrink as a ripper with AnyDVD(again, AnyDvd could rip by itself, so no need for DVD Shrink). If that's the case, just have DVD Shrink save as a folder to HDD instead of an ISO. Then burn the Video_Ts folder with ImgBurn under "Build" mode, ImgBurn itself will build the ISO and take care of the layer break the way it likes.

I too have had very minimal experience burning dual layer. This thread should help you out though.

Was the media that did work dual layer too? I've never had any luck burning Dual layer with Nero. The only thing that has worked for me for DL is DVD Decrypter.

For DL, everyone says you should only use Verbatim. Nero is not good at burning DL. Use ImGburn instead(is DVD Decrypter's burning engine updated)

I've never had a problem with Verbatim or Memorex (as long as I don't use Nero). I agree its probably your software (Nero) and why are you using DVD Shrink with DL anyway?

I tried IMGburn and AnyDVD but they still fail.

Servo spindle error.

But my burner still burns Matrix discs with no problem.
