If I'm backing up a movie with DVDFab Platinum, would I get a greater level of quality by saving the dvd to the hard disk then putting it through shrink, or would I achieve the same quality burning it with the recommended settings in DVDFab?

If you rip it to your HDD, process through VobBlanker or FixVts, there would be less to compress. Then doing a deep analysis would render a very good quality burn. IMHO of course.

For us extremists,
Put movie on HDD with DVDFAB
Use vob blanker and fixvts
Skip the compression and create iso file with imgburn in build mode
Burn to DL+R while booktyping to dvd-rom
Enjoy an nearly "identical" backup of the origional dvd.
Then the rest of us cheapos (I mean economically fiscally inclined) do as 7thsinger suggests .

Quote: Enjoy an "identical" backup of the origional dvd
:)... We hope after all that processing it will not be identical, but the original minus all the useless crap they put on to hinder the backup process!
Cheers!

I prefer to remove all the crapola whilst I rip with DVDFab HD Decrypter and then, if needed, DVD2One to create an ISO and burn with Imgburn. I've rarely found I need to use VobBlanker or FixVTS.

LOL,
I will blame that on english being my second language; that's probably why my scanner picks up small "discrepancies":)!
I am one of the cheapos myself. The only comercial program that I have is Nero.

Thanks to all you extremists but I have been using DVDShrink,Decrypter v3.5.4.0 and AnyDVD and have NEVER had a problem.
Why re-envent the wheel if it's not broke. I understand everyone has thier favorites but my question wasn't about programs just media.

Are you sure you posted in the right thread eric? Unless I am too tired and can't see 20/20 anymore...:) I can't find your "media" question in this thread.
