I am an AVID user of DVD Shrink and have run into a couple DVD's recently that result in a 90 minute black screen! I am ripping to HD using no compression, and utilize the same settings for each rip.
Are there certain DVD's that require different settings in DVD Shrink for success? Or does this just mean that whatever copy protection is on said DVD that doesn't work, DVD Shrink isn't capable of removing?
I have been archiving my DVD Collection to my HD over the past couple of weeks, and now have 2 DVD's that this has occured with and I am stuck. I also have DVD Decrypter, but would prefer to stick with DVD Shrink as I can rip the main title only and result in 1 large .VOB file. I can't find settings in DVD Decrypter to avoid getting 4-5 seperate .VOBS for a single movie file.
Ok so I am an idiot and 5 minutes with the search tool rendered me the ability to use DVD Decrypter and receive a sinle output file - so scratch that comment.
However I just tried to rip the same DVD with decrypter, with the same result. Full file size/duration of the movie being ripped, audio ripped correctly, but no video stream.
It would sound to me like a copy protection issue, but I would like some confirmation on that if possible!
If it is, are there possibly settings in Shrink that could correct this, or am I looking at alternate programs to rip this DVD?
I have read about Any DVD in to remove copy protection, but I don't have it and it looks like it is unavailable for download anymore so looks like I am just SOL with that one! LoL
Shouldn't be a copy protection issue. Honestly it's hard to say what the problem can be with such vague information.
What are the titles that you are having trouble with?
What process are you taking from when you put the disc into your drive? Step by step would be nice to help figure out what is going on.
DVDshrink usually won't just rip the dvd... hence the name... shrink (I have heard of it taking random older titles). It takes the dvd and compresses it down in order to fit onto a standard 4.7 GB dvd. You usually want to use some type of decrypting program or another ripping tool in order to get the info onto your HD. From there, you would want to use shrink in order to get it onto a disc (depending how big the data is to begin with). If ther data ripped is less than 4.7 gigabytes, you can just throw it onto a burning program and PRESTO!! You now have a back up disc of your movie!
There are some great programs out there for purchase that blow dvd decrypter out of the water (especially considering that dvd decrypter is no longer updated) in my opinion.
Have you tried searching through the forums to see if there are any threads on the titles already? Usually any titles that anyone has trouble with are posted up here.
AnyDVD IS available for download, BUT I would highly recommend that you purchase it considering it is a PHENOMENAL program (and keeps getting better because it is updated for the newest protection). I also highly suggest purchasing dvdfabplatinum4 as it too is an outstanding program (with constant updates to handle the newest protection) and easy to use (1-click).
You can always try ripit4me which goes hand in hand with decrypter and shrink the way that clone dvd 2 does with any dvd. If you do use ripit4me, I would also suggest that you grab FIXVTS and VOB Blanker as well, as those programs will remove unwanted/bogus cells from your data.
Shouldn't have anything do to with shrink or any settings in there to my knowledge.
You can download a 21 day trial version of AnyDVD here:
But like I suggested, I really recommend that you purchase BOTH (or whichever you prefer) based on the success rate/ease of use.
Cheers!
@Creaky... You beat me to the punch!! Next time I'll have to type a shorter message! ; ) (I suppose the fact that I'm doing 40,000 things at once and jumping from window to window doesn't help though) ; )

hehe, that's why i asked how i asked, i'm suspecting it's the umpteenth question about a movie we already have a thread about :)
