I use WMP11 and its fine.
Have yo got WMP11 recognizing the PS3,also have you selected the folders you want WMP11 to use,if they are not selected your PS3 will not see them.

Ive tried WMP and TVersity - WMP is so much better.
AS has been said you need to tell WMP which folders to share and with which devices.

Go to tools, options then go to library and select monitor folders, then select "My folders and those of others that i can access" then click the add button and select all the folders you have media in.You also might want to go into configure sharing and select the settings you want to use with your PS3.

Open WMP
Choose The drop down below Library
Choose Add to Library
Click Advanced Options
Click the satelite box next to "My folders and those of others that I can access"
In the box below choose the folders you wish to share.
Click Okay and WMP will then search those files and add them to your library.
These files then once added will be available to the PS3 via streaming.

Did you do everything that Pepp77 and i said.
This might be a stupid question but are you selecting ther WMP symbol on your PS3 and not just going straight to the Video and Music folders on your PS3.

well i did some digging around; so here's an update
it seems the problem is one of two things:
1. WMP doesnt actually transcode on the fly (stream) it only shares. this may not be true but im not certain at this point so keep in mind
2. codecs! this was a no brainer and was what i was suspecting; anyone with codec packs installed will want to UNINSTALL them. the only reliable codec packs for streaming seem to be cccp or ffdshow, cccp seems to be the prefered (since ffdshow is only used for major codecs)
anyway, the solution i picked was to switch to nero home media for my media sharing, and bingo no more problems
heres a couple links with tutorials for streaming (transcoding) video from pc to ps3
for wmp
for nero
ill also give tversity a whirl sometime this month and ill be back with more updates
bye for now!

I have ffdshow but not CCCP installed and my files stream fine.
I also have divx and xvid codecs installed but thats about it I believe.
I can stream my avis with no issue and when I download a .mkv I use PS3 video 9 to transcode it into a .mpg (using the 1080p MPEG-2 setting) which takes just under the run time of the film usually, then they stream without an issue using WMP11 to my PS3 (have so far done about 15 HD films using this method).

@pepp
very interesting. i still cant get wmp to stream ALL my videos. short of uninstalling my newly installed cccp and getting codec snipper to clear out whatever fragments are left and then reinstalling cccp or ffdshow w/xvid and divx, im not sure what to do. however i have since moved from nero to tversity; mainly since nero tends to take up all my cpu between mediaserving and transcoding (YUK!).
tversity takes an amazingly low amount of resources, and i've never liked wmp anyway so ill just stick with it untill i have need to otherwise.
@kevin
just a few dummy questions; seems like this is a networking problem.
does your ps3 show an icon of your wmp media server above all your media folders? when (in WMP) you bring up media sharing (click on library) do you have BOTH boxes checked? how old is your router/hub? can your mp3's be accessed and played through WMP's library interface? do you have the latest firmware for you ps3?

I have just tested an mp4 file using WMP11 and that would not even show up in WMP's library let alone stream across. Looks like ill be sticking with mpgs. However I was able to stream the mp4s using tversity (I uninstalled it as my computer wasnt responding to tversity and would just keep increasing the memory it was using without doing anything, this started when I tried to update the library).
I have also tried to stream .vob using tversity and it did work before it stopped working at all. I havent tried the .vob with WMP as I dont need to.

I tried the mp4 thing myself Pepp77 and WMP11 told me that it wasnt a supported type which is annoying as VLC dislays it no problem.
I did a codec search of my computer and found that i had a lot more than i thought i did.I installed a codec pack only selecting what i needed and WMP11 now can play the mp4 file but the PS3 will not display it.
Files i have found to work, streaming and copying with WMP11 are:
.mp3
Divx
Xvid
.mpg(video mpeg 1 format)
.wma
.wmv(vc-1)my Ps3 could see it as a video file but would not play it.
Asf came up as unsupported so did MKV.
Im going to uninstall the codec pack as i have no need for it.

One thing to note the PS3 will play MP4 files off DVD or an external harddrive or the internal harddrive as long as it is small enough to fit on one of those formats or you can get it on the harddrive some other way.
I currently have an mp4 version of transformers on my PS3s internal harddrive, its 3.5 gigs (but looks good) so I copied it using a usb drive.

yeah i couldnt get anything more than xvid and mpeg-2's to play through wmp. frankly i think vob's is a waste unless you have a monsterous amount of space. i myself have more than a couple thousand dvds i plan to put on my hdd for streaming, and vob would take up way too much space. on the other hand you do get a good picture with a decent vob rip so if you do have enough space then i guess it could be beneficial. i wonder if you renamed the file from movie.vob to movie.mpg or movie.mpeg if it would let you play/stream it then? also check out the first link i put up for the tutorials (again: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstat...essage.id=44464 ) it has a link to something that registers mp4's properly with wmp and should let you then stream them to your ps3
