I have dvd copy 5 It did not back up saw 4 good. It gets to the movie and the disk freezes. my question is not about saw 4. So knowing that dvd5 copy dont work i try dvd shrink. I also downloaded the newest version on anydvd.
So i open dvd shrink and everything goes good till i hit back up. Then it crashes. Why does it do this?

If you're using 1click dvdcopy 5 and anydvd (these are my two backup apps of choice), you need the latest version of 1click dvdcopy to be able to correctly backup this movie (version 5.4.2.3)
Changes made are:
5.4.2.3 (Jan 17, 2008) CPRx update for movies like "Mr. Woodcock" and "Saw 4".
You can get it here:
http://www.lgsoftwareinnovations.com/exe...etup5.4.2.3.exe
You should also make sure that anydvd is upto date as well if using it with shrink (try turning off the preview window in shrink):
http://static.slysoft.com/SetupAnyDVD.exe
If shrink continues to crash, try uninstalling it, then reinstall and retry. Also defrag your HDD and try running a registry cleaner before you reinstall shrink.
One last thing to mention, I've seen nvidia drivers do this to shrink. This could of been due to a corruption issue or just outdated drivers, the sloution was to unistall the drives and reinstall the latest software from the Nvidia site.

cac,
With the AnyDVD + DVD Shrink combo, are you ripping the full discs or just the main movies?

k when after i do open disk it goes thru the preview and quickly plays the movie after at 100% It list the parts of the movie. The space on the dvd is far greater than 4.7 so i usually do reauther - > and do main movie. K now all i got over is the main movie. I hit back up and it the mouse pointer goes to a hour glass and then shrink shuts off. That happends for every movie. I got the latest ver. of anydvd and shrink.

Consider this, utilize DVDFab HD Decrypter to rip the movie. Afterwards, use DVD Shrink to compress just to see if you get the same result...

cac,
Since you have anydvd (the latest version), try using the ripper that comes with it. Right click on the red fox in your taskbar and choose rip video DVD to the hard drive.
Once the process is complete, run shrink and use it to open the video files (open files tab), you should then be able to use shrink to complete the backup process as you normally would.

You're welcome cac!)

Some movies require a little more work than others:(
The ripper incorporates tools that cleanup the video files and help make them DVD compliant (you can also do this using seperate free tools, but why), shrink should have no trouble working with the files once the structure has been corrected and copy protection has been stripped..

cac,
When you hit Backup! on DVD Shrink, select to save the output files to the Hard Disk Folder first.
