Hi, I am trying to back up a new copy of the Surf's Up DVD using DVD Shrink. Have clicked on open disc, Shrink thinks about it for a few seconds then brings up an error message saying "DVD Shrink encountered an error and can not continue, Invalid DVD Navigation Structure." Not sure what this means. I am trying to create an ISO image of the main movie only so that I can burn it to a DVD+R disc.
After this, I tried using DVD Decrypter and also IMGBurn to make the ISO image of the whole disc but it got 44% thru both times and then came up with 20 read errors with a message saying CIRC Unrecovered error- not sure what this means. Not sure if this would have worked anyway for me since the whole disc ISO would probably have been above the 4.7MB I can fit on the blank DVD+R disk
Help please
James
Many thanks for your reply. Apologies, I am new at this. Have read thru the links on your reply but am not any closer to figuring out why DVD Shrink aint reading the disc or what I need to do to be able to get around this. Still need help, perhaps someone could give me some guidance please
Many thanks
James
In a nutshell, DVD Shrink is very outdated on the encryption side of things, ie it's too old to combat the newer copy protections; my recommendation is DVDFab HD Decrypter (free), which is updated frequently so will be able to get past the encryptions. Then you can use DVD Shrink to to do it's thing (if the movie needs any shrinking that is); so Shrink is still as useful as it always was, it just needs help with the encryptions..
there are other programs/methods, but this is by far the easiest; i swear by DVDFab & Shrink myself
The link provided by creaky should of helped, but the info lacks an explanation as to why shrink will at times produce various errors or even lockup and quit. It fails to help those who are new realize that shrink is outdated and nolonger supported, and so will need a little help form other pretty good applications to get the job done like those mentioned.
CorinaG,
FREE way: Try ripping to your hard drive using DVDFab HD decrypter first, once it's done, try opening the files using shrink (use the open files tab or open disk image for .iso files) and proceed as you normally would with the backup.
If shrink fails to open the files, then additional work is needed. This is where vobblanker or fixVTS are used, the files should be processed thru one of theses two apps first before trying to open using shrink. The simplest to use is FixVTS.....when DVDFab is done, process the files thru FixVTS, then open using shrink.
NOT for FREE: If you just don't want to go through all this work every time shrink fails, try using anydvd. AnyDVD is a driver that runs in the backround used to strip the DVD of its copy protection, once installed, you should be able to use shrink as you normally would without any problems (most of the time). Just remember to keep AnyDVD upto date and you'll be ok.
EDIT: creaky, looks like you beat me to the punch...LOL..., must of taken too much time typing it (lots of distractions here).
Guys, a big thank you, it worked perfectly. DVDFAB first to create a file on the hard drive. Shrink to create an ISO file from that then DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO file to disc.
Many thanks
James
Hi all,
I have had a problem as well. My problem is when trying DVDFab HD decrypter, an error appears after about 16% completion saying, DVDFab encountered a reading error (may be caused by copy protection) which can be removed by using PathPlayer... I click ok and it restart the process again but I just keeps scanning the disk with no response. In the end I canx out after about an 30mins, its left me a little confused and I am not too sure where to go from there. Does anyone have any suggestion?
