so ive been looking into this and am wondering if i put a legit ps2 game in start it make it eject then put in my backup will it work or do i have to open my ps3 and such crap

You have to cut a hole in the top of your once sexy PS3. I'm doubting you'd want to do that.

It is possible to play them using the "Swap Switch", as described in THIS THREAD.
However it does still involve opening up your PS3 and soldering etc...personally i'd rather just plug my PS2 back in if i wanted to play PS2 games!

no, not free. you lose your PS3's warranty, not to mention the costs of the equipment needed for the swap switch.
