convertxtodvd - cuts off 'widescreen'

convertxtodvd: 2.2.3.258
I tried to burn an avi file the other day and it cut off the sides of the video on both sides.
i'm positive it's the video and not my tv.. do you know of another program.. or how to fix it?

If the source is 16:9 wide-screen and you have a wide-screen TV, check the 'TV Format' tab, setting the TV screen to 16:9

I just tried burning another one and the 16:9 was checked.. and it still cut off the sides.

I don't know why ConvertX would crop the video, it's not known for causing that kind of problem and I assume you have no problems in the past converting these files?.
When it's played back on the PC is it cropped also?
You could try another converter, like DVD Flick.
Remember to set the configuration to match the video standard (PAL or NTSC).
There is a short, concise guide that comes with it.

I'm not sure why either.. it worked before, but i haven't used it forever.
I tried downloading the newest version tos ee if that would help.. and it still cuts them off.

If you are familiar with VirtualDub, you could select a few frames of the AVI source and upload them.
Load the file.
Drag the slider to where you want the cut to begin, click the left flag then drag the bar a few frames and click the right flag.
Click 'Video' 'Direct Stream Copy'
Click 'File' 'Save as AVI'

the avi file i'm trying to burn?
or what it comes out as after it's burned to the dvd (cause it's not in an avi format.)

This is the output from ConvertX;as you can see, nothing is cut off.
I have nothing special set in ConvertX, except I always select 16:9 for the TV, but that's not relevant.
Also, when you view the output from ConvertX on the PC, the ends are cut?

No, I don't use it.
There's nothing that I know of that can cause this effect.
I don't elect a menu, or burn to disk and I'm using version 2.2.3.258

I dunno.. it looks fine int he 'video preview' as well.
but i've tried just creating the dvd files and not burning.. and opening the files in powerdvd .. and it's still messed up.
so something is wrong with how i have convertxtodvd setup.. but i don't understand why it's showing fine in the preview and then not working after.

Hi,
Just giving in some ideas, since I always use "Automatic" and never personally had issues.
One thing I know is this:
Selecting 16:9 just means you will watch this movie on a 16:9 TV !
Doesn't mean you will take a 4:3 movie and making it a 16:9 ratio movie.
Also 16:9 = 1.77777:1 ratio.

Your input file, has a ratio of 1.84:1
so yes, there will be padding and cropping.
On that said, I am not a video GURU so someone else will need to give more details if needed...

Compare ezkim0x's TV output, where the curly film is cut off right and left and mine where it is untouched.
We use the same input and the same version of ConvertX, but the result is different - even when ezkim0x checks the output on the PC, the right and left edges are cut off.

I too just tried the clip and it comes out fine. I have CXD set to TV-Auto. It not showing correctly on the pc confuses me. But in this case note that PowerDVD, your standalone, and your TV all have settings that you need to double check. Your TV pic doesn't just show the ends cut-off, you also have bad AR... a squished vertically compressed pic.
Open one of your converted VOB's in GSpot, make sure it shows dar 16:9. If it does, maximize it and go to the bottom left and Render it (1) then see if it looks right in the preview (2).

Yes I noticed, but my observation was there was also the picture distortion. I was trying to figure out if it was a TV setting... WIDE/ZOOM etc. And if the player is set up correctly (16:9).

Although I can't see your your GSpot pic I'll take your word for it. I was assuming a setting, hence an alternate viewer. If you take a known good 16:9 VOB (non CXD) and plunk it into GSpot does it also look off?

Don't you have any WS movies/burns that play correctly on your set. Have you ever played a WS/16:9 DVD on it?

Yeah.. I will find a dvd later and rip it to my computer and test.
I'm running a bunch of processes right now on my pc so i can't do it.
