the total time it takes you from start to finish depends and your complete system. Processor speed, amount of ram,dvd drive speed, and HD speed. With out more of your system specs its hard to tell if your speed is too slow. Also the size and length of the original has a lot to do with it. Doing full disc backup will take longer than movie only. Average time for say a mid line 1gig processor system about 1hr to 1 1/2 hr including burn back. Hope this helps and of course the times are estimates. Also don't multitask while doing a backup. Most system resources are in use for the backup.

For your reference -
My system
P4 2.66 - 768 DDR (333) Ram
LG 4040B dvd burner
30 & 80 gig Maxtor 7200 RPM HDs

...it takes me about 18 mins to shrink/backup a dvd. Hope this helps._

dvd shrink is very slow for me too, it takes about 2hrs to compress and burn a dvd 9. I have a laptop, pIII 1.1ghz, 512ram and a nec 2500 dvd writer (external) firewire. I use my internal dvd reader to rip. It reads at 8x. Also, how do I figure out what features are what in dvd shrink's browser? When i try to preview files before ripping I only get audio. How can I tell which file is the movie itself? I have several large files that all could be the movie itself.
