ive brought a wifimax dongle thing . i am on xp and have a broadband modem.

so i have installed wifimax and found it on my ps3. i use to have the obtaing ip problem with it but overcame that by putting my ip in manually . but now when i test the internet connection it fails and says something like it is a dns error . help please i relaly want this to wor

I don't mean to sound offencive but the WiFiMax dongle is a piece of garbage, it really isn't meant for use for anything other than like a PDA or a handheld system. And many many people have had problems with it. You should return the WiFiMax and get a cheap wireless G router they're only about $30-40 now and produce much better results, not to mention much easier to use.

i know its rubbihs but i bought it off ebay and cant return it . so im asking for help :) not comments on how crap it is :P

just because you put in your ip address manually doesent mean it is actually connected to the ISP, you just told the computer what adress to identify itself on the network while it is connected. the DNS service is a "hierarchical way of tracking domain names and their adresses....does not rely on... one server, but rather is distributed across the internet to prevent catastrophic failure if one or a few computers go down"



basically, you are NOT connected holmes... irregardless of if it "succeeds" in obtaining the ip adress you told it to use.
