I have an AMD Athlon 2100+ 1.7 Ghz with 512 megs of ram and a 110 gig hard drive with 91.9 % free space. I am using an LG GSA 4040b DVD drive. I takes me anywhere from an 1 and a half to 2 hour or longer to encode a dvd. What am i doing wrong should it take this long Thanks for any help

Hi Kane,
Thats a long time. Can you go into your device manager and see that your IDE channels are set to DMA and not to PIO?
What OS are you using?
Make sure your not running a bunch of stuff in the background. Do you have your Anti-virus software running?

This is how I check my IDE channels: Right click My computer> propertys> device manager> click on the +box to open IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right click primary IDE channel> propertys> advanced settings> Change it from PIO to DMA, do the same thing for the secondary IDE channel. I have WinXP.

Well see if that helps and let us know.

Hey thanks fasfrank I am using Win XP. I switched my ide channels over only the secondary was on PIO. I think that was the transfer channel. If you have any other advice please share. How long should it take to encode a movie Average time.
