Hi, sorry, I'm new to anydvd and dvd shrink and I can't figure this one out. Everything will go fine and the burning process reaches a certain percentage and then just stops. It sounds like it's still burning but it just keeps going and going with no end. It seems like this just started to happen after I downloaded anydvd. HELP? Thanks so much.

What are you using to burn?
AnyDvd is a ripper, Dvd Shrink is a ripper and transcoder, but neither program burns.

@ Singer
Shrink is not a ripper.

Quote: Shrink is not a ripper.
DVD shrink is a DVD transcoder with the added ability to rip video files in ISO image format or VIDEO_TS folder format to your HDD for further processing. So, I would agree with 7thsinger, that shrink is both a ripper and a transcoder.
But....
@7thsinger
Quote: AnyDvd is a ripper
Anydvd is not a ripper (not its main function), but does contain one if you just want the video files ripped to the HDD. AnyDVD is a "Windows-based driver that works automatically in the background to unprotect encrypted movie DVDs", the third party app contains the ripper (like CloneDVD).
@kmunky
Make sure anydvd is upto date (ver 6.4.1.2).

If it's the burning process and not the ripping process you're referring to, there could be several plus reasons why:
Just some possibilities:
burning application used
burner firmware out of date
burn speed used
media quality
-Shrink uses Nero or DVD decrypter (also can be set to use Imgburn) to auto burn with, If auto burning, I would set shrink to create an ISO image file and burn with DVD dcrypter in the backup settings. You could also have shrink create an ISO image file and save it to the HDD, then use Imgburn to manually burn the file to DVD.
Imgburn
http://www.imgburn.com/
-Make sure your burner is running/using the latest firmware, the firmware may contain added media compatibility and enchancements. You can look here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php
-Never use the default MAX setting for burn speed, it increases the chance for failure. A good rule to follow is to set it to 1/2 the rated speed of the media used (or 4X) to be safe.
-The quality of the media you're using is also very important, try using verbatim disks...Sony....TY's. If possible, look for made in Japan on the package.
Cheers;)

To both berryone and johnl123
I apologize for my hasty reply to the OP.
I was not referring to said Apps in their main functionality. But both are capable in isolated instances for the properties which i had mentioned. My mistake for not clarifying in both instances.
I was more interested in getting to where the origin of the OP's error came from, being that no burning App was mentioned. Again, my apologies for my own lack of clarification. I was only trying to get a little further into the problem posted.
Good follow up Johnl123, BTW.

Hello All,
Does anyone know if the Nero 6 OEM Suite is just as good as the retail version or does it just contain the essentials for copying your DVDs and CDs?
I have seen it in several websites for around $8.00-$9.00
If it works for what we need, it would seem to be a real bargain

Quote: I'm using Nero to burn.
Autoburning using Nero should be just fine, just make sure Nero is upto date. I have nero 7 and use it to burn video to DVD and have yet to have an issue, keep in mind what I stated above and you should have no problem with the burning process:
1)burn/write speed (1/2 the rated media speed or use 4X)
2)media quality (stick to what's considered good quality media)
3)firmware (keep it upto date)
Also, as I and others have stated above, Imgburn is a very good alternative
Also....
This statement (and the title of the thread) suggests:
Quote: I was having problems decoding with just shrink so read that anydvd was excellent at that.
Your problem is with successfully ripping the video files so that they can be burned to DVD. Since you have Anydvd, make sure it's the current version as I stated above, also make sure that the disk isn't dirty or smudged (if so, clean it) then retry.
A very good free alternative to using Anydvd is to try DVDfab decrypter as dvdchick suggested, if you manage to get the files ripped to the hard drive, you can then use shrink to do the rest.
If the process continues to fail, then I would suspect a problem with the DVD, return it and exchange it for another copy.
Cheers.

I can't ever recall having a ripping problem effect the burn enough to prevent me from completing the burn if I burned slow enough. Ripping problems show up in the coding process. Once the ISO file is made I can't ever remember not being able to burn it to disk and I have burned more than one DVD. The problem may be the information was not read perfectly but well enough to hang together enough to make the ISO file.
Getting too technical, there may be spots where the to and from video frames are missing pointers. The from frame should point to the to frame and vise versa. Shrink only needs a to or from to sequence properly it may have to pause to figure it out. Poor rips take longer to process. Missing information can confuse the burning program if you are burning too fast. This may also show up as a skip when it is played. If you rip to av files then run FixVTS that will fill in the missing information. I always use fixVTS out of habbit.
kmunky, I think you just want to slow the burn down not do anything fancy.
kmunky, few if any video junkies use Nero. It is just not a real serious app for anything. Its market is people that either don't know or don't care. Now maybe they have change in the last 4 year but I doubt it. Use something like Imgburn before you ask anymore questions. Try burning at the slowest burn setting. Just compairing the burn speed settings will explain it all. Like with a car or trunck, sometimes you need to put it in low gear to "muscle though" a problem. You ISO file has something wrong with it. 9 out of 10 it will burn just fine at a very slow speed. Nero only has two speeds fast and faster. It is totally unequipt to handle anything but optimum conditions and is totally void of any real quality. That whole organization is filled with ass holes! My experiance is for a 16x disk Nero will not allow your to burn slower than 12x while video burning tools will always allow you to burn at 1 or 2x. I can't fathom why Nero refuses to allow you to burn at a slow speed if you need to. When I complained, Nero blamed it on the firmware, the burner and the operation system. They couldn't explain why the rest of my burning apps would allow very slow speeds and concidered it my problem not theirs. Slower burn speed are only the tip of the iceburg as to why you should use a 'real' burning app. Of course you will never learn if you never try.
I just remembered something after I posted. The other problem could be the media having a bad spot at 70%. Sometimes that happens. You can get a bad spot in the same place with consecutive disks. The solution is the same. You can muscle through bad spots and bad media. Usually you can't tell and don't care if it is the file or the media since slowing down fixes both. It is only if you can't muscle through that you have to figure out what the problem really is. My experiance is buring at half speed produces a better product than 3/4 or full speed. Faster burns usually have more skips etc.

No, don't. There's better programs than that available, all of which we have outlined thus far.
