First, i have a PS2 with a modchip, so i have all my games on backup cds,if i buy a PS3 would i be able to play backups. If yes, then how would i load it on the HDD. I do understand that we cannot mod the PS3 to use the discs themselves. The games are pretty expensive here so i dont want to be investing a lot of money on the console and then a lot more on the games. Apart from the HD and Wi'Fi is there any other advantage of having a PS3.
PS2 Slim Ver: 75004 Silver Satin Edition

DMS4 Pro SE - Toxic OS (on the way)

They say there is a new mod chip coming out for the ps3...but it doesn't look promising. Backups are probably still a long way off I'm afraid.
I have a PS3 and I love it. It's a real step up from the PS2, and if you get bored with the games from the shops you can buy a really cheap game (like pain!) for only a few quid from the store. Also chatting with friends and sending photos is really good fun. If your willing to spend a fair bit more for the console then I'd say definitely go for it
Each console has it's perks at the moment. The xbox 360 has more games to it and Microsoft is still working on decreasing the failure rate to parallel the ps3 and wii. The Wii is a great console for kids, friends, family and just general group activity. The ps3 is a powerhouse, with blu-ray discs capable of storing 25GB-50GB. The graphics will continue to improve as developers get better at coding for it.The 360 has a lead on the number of console exclusives, but the ps3 still has Final Fantasy 13 for hard core RPG fans. Between the playstation network and Live, live has a larger fanbase. But Playstation Home is supposed to be integrated into the playstation network to allow trophies and such as well as a virtual social network.(that is, once it's released) From a... Backup... point of view. The xbox 360 has been cracked, the Wii has been cracked, the psp is cracked... the playstation 3 is a different story. Sony has learned a lot about preventing firmware hacks from the psp (though they never got it quite right :P ) and there modchip experience from the ps2 helps them even more. Then there's the whole fact that blu-ray burners and discs are still expensive. Until we can spoof Sony's security key for playing games from the hard drive... I don't see it happening soon.
