In terms of p2p, I initially used Morpheus, then Kazaa, then Kazaalite and now, due to the significant decline in the quality of Fastrack content, I've decided to switch to e-mule.
I understand that e-mule isn't going to be as fast as Kazaa, especially initially, because of the "credit" system, but I've noticed something odd with my setup.
First off, I'm on dialup (56k modem, typically connecting to the isp at 50.6Kbps) so I know that I won't ever really be getting any blazing fast downloads. However, in a couple days of using e-mule, I haven't had a download over 0.9k...
With Kazaalite, it was possible to get downloads of over 6Kbps or more, averaging at about 3Kbps.
Cumulative download ratio is 9.05:1
Cumulative uploaded data is 109.93Mb/260 sessions
Cumulative downloaded data is 12.12Mb/128 sessions
Total downloaded files 2 (a pair of .cue files for cd burns)
I read..somewhere...that the credit system takes dial-up users into account and we still get decent (for dial-up) download speeds.
27 Shared files, average size 220.20Mb, Biggest file 984.69Mb, total size of shared files: 5.81G
I've gone through the tutorial and followed the instructions. I've updated the "adresses.dat" file and "server.met" url. I've been connecting to the servers with the lowest ping and most users/files and yet, my downloads are still painfully slow. People can upload from me at over 10kb/s yet I have not been able to download at anything more 0.9k.
I'm using XP and the XP firewall. I created a new port for e-mule (4662 internal/external TCP). I have not had any "lowID" problems.
Any advice for dial up settings for eMule (v0.30e)?
I would be perfectly happy downloading at 1.5-2Kbps.
