I have 10 AVI files on my PC and I want to to put all of them onto a single layer DVD to play in my DVD Player. The problem is that they all do not fit on a single layer DVD. If I convert them into a DVD folder with Sothink Movie DVD Maker (please suggest a better and free AVI to DVD Converter if you know one), would I be able to use DVD Shrink to shrink the DVD folder the converter made so it will fit onto a single layer disc? If not, can you suggest a better way to get all my AVI files onto one single layer DVD, which is playable in my DVD player?
Thanks

Shrink only with DVD compliant files. You can burn your AVI files to DVD as a data disc. They will only play in your standalone player if it is Divx certified. You can convert them to DVD but you will not get all of them on a DVD.
Try DVD Flick.

So after converting the AVI files, will DVD Shrink be able to shrink the DVD Folder to fit on a single layer disc?

After using DVD Flick, they should fit. If not then Shrink will finish the job.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I just installed DVD Shrink and do not see the option to shrink the file. First I open the file, then what?

Thanks a lot. I will try it in a few days. Those 10 AVI files will probably take a very long time to convert.

Okay, I almost forgot about this forum after finishing all my school work, but before I started to convert my AVIs into DVD format, I checked the size of all my 10 AVIs. It turned out to be 7.58 GB. I am pretty sure that DVD Shrink cannot shrink that into a single layered disc after the conversion. Can anyone tell me if I am wrong?

Yes, that was the size for all the AVIs combined together. I just converted with WinAVI 9.0 and it came out with 5 DVD folder. I don't want to burn all of them to 5 DVDs, but if I have to, I will. But when I previewed each DVD, there was three movies on each disc, but that last one was split cut in half with the other half on the next DVD. Does DVD Filck tell you which movies will be on which disc, and which movies will be split in half, because WinAVI doesn't. If not, do you know a good converter that does that before the conversion?
Thanks
And to lwalker, DVD Shrink is not compatible with Vista according to Afterdawn. Look HERE

There is no program that will do what you're asking. You just write on each disc what you have burned on it.

Given that the size of your 10 AVI files is 7.58 gb the resulting size of the file(s) if you were to convert them to DVD format would be mind blowing. And conversion will take many hours.
Even IF shrink could reduce that huge size to fit on one disk, the quality would probably be awful because of way too much compression. I don't think it even could.
I would suggest putting the AVI files on one DL disk. They will fit as data and no need to split. Here's the catch: Do you have a DL burner and does your DVD player handle AVI playback?
On the other hand if your player can handle AVI playback consider putting the 10 files on 2 disks. Not as tidy as one DL, but 2 regular disks are way cheaper than one DL, plus you won't need the DL burner if you don't already have one.

Thanks for all the help from everyone. I got it to work. I just put 2 AVIs on a single layer DVD. So I used 5 DVDs. If anyone wants to know what software I used, I used Nero Vision to convert the AVIs to DVD Video format.

DVD Shrink works just fine with Vista, please don't spread misinformation. You may have to run it in compatibility mode, but it does in fact work.
