*RESOLVED*
The newest cfw was required to get the remote play to work correctly. Furthermore, it is possible to upgrade directly from 3.71 M33-4 to 3.90 M33-3.

Original question:
Hi guys,
I've searched for a solution to this problem many times but all I;ve ever found are threads relating to problem associated with registering a cfw PSP to a PS3.

I've already registered my PSP to my PS3. The problem I'm having is I get the "A system software update for the PSP system is required" message when I try and connect to my PS3 via local (private) network.

Here's a little info:
My PS3 is a PAL machine on official 3.5 Firmware
My PSP is on 3.71 M33-4
My PSP is a PSP Slim

Can anyone help?

The PS3 checks to see that your psp has the latest firmware update, if it doesnt it wont let you use remote play, hence your error message. You will have to update your cfw to the newest m33.

Would you happen to know if the 3.71 M33-4 firmware allowed the auto update feature? The one where you go to the Network Update option in the XMB and it automatically updates to the newest M33 firmware.

I'm not sure, I've always done them manually as a habit because I've been doing it since the first oe firmware; never bothered to look into the auto update.

I'd manually do it once so next time you need to update you will know for sure that it supports auto update.

Sorry, another question (it's been quite some time since I last did anything with my PSP so I've forgotten some stuff)

Do you know if it's possible to update directly from 3.71 to 3.90 or do I need to go from 3.71->3.80->3.90?

I don't know I've never bothered to update past 3.71 m33-2. I know you had to do something like that to go from the oe version to m33 but im not sure about how it works after 3.71 m33.
