You need some sort of mod, either software(exploit or Swap Magic) or hardware to boot up the usb advance.

Hi,

I had the same problem. I think the black screen appears because usb advance is for NTSC.

I downloaded AR Max Evo, and successeded to boot usb advance from it.

After that, I connected usb mem stick or usb hdd and everything worked just fine.
I used ul_install and ul_format to format and install games on usb mem stick or usbextreme (win) to format and install games on usb hdd.

I also used link http://list.sksapps.com/ for list of compatible games for usb playing.

Hi

Yes, this is the problem I'm having. I can see something flash on the screen eve so quickly then blackness and yes it seems to be changing video format. Exact same thing happens booting usbadvance of cd or by creating the swapmagic folder on the external hd and renaming the elf. Other people on these forums suggest it could be the chip (Matrix Infinity 1.99). Will try to find AR Max Evo....

Any further tips?

B

If you do have the Matrix Infinity chip, you need to disable the "Macrovision fix" when using USBAdvance.

Smokyrain...thanks a bunch. After disabling macrovision fix, booting up with usbadvance loads up fine. Problem now, usbadvance doesn't see the game on the hdd.

*However*, when I boot up swap magic 3.6 with the hdd connected and SWAPMAGIC directory with renamed elf...usbadvance does indeed load off the hdd. So swap magic can see the usb drive. Problem still exists though, usbadvance cannot see the game on the hdd....grrrr

Hi, you will need to find a compatible drive then. They are not all compatible with USBAdvance.

Most larger External USB drives work, but not all pen drives do.

thats ok......... the reason behind most
pen drives not working with usb advance may be
the USB 1.1 compatibility which ps2 have....
ps2 usb port is USB 1.1. and which does not support
most latest pendrives having usb2.0 interface.......
i am also getting problem even when the pendrive is connecte
it does not shows up on the screen i have TRANSCEND PENDRIVE
The other one which is KINGSTON works and it also shows the game
grand turismo but, when i press X to play it, it does not
play it and the "PLEASE WAIT GAME IS LOADING" SCREEN remains......
nothing happens

If you have the Infinity manager installed, then you use that to disable macrovision
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=matrix/matrix_tut.html

In the link above scroll down to "Configuring the Matrix Infinity Menu"

Infinity option configuration menu :
------------------------------------

Press TRIANGLE + CIRCLE to enter the configuration menu.

MACROVISION FIX : ON/OFF : Enable/Disable Macrovision patch

That's the little sucker that was denying me booting off the usbadvance cd (thanks again smokyrain).

No problem.

Do you mean for "efficiency" like in terms of how well it works or lasts?

I had no problems with it.

In terms of speed & reliability.

The fastest speed you will get is 1.1 as that is what the PS2 is, no matter if its a USB 2.0 device.
A lot of times, movies, intros will be choppy or skip, but gameplay is fine.

And for reliability they are good as far as I know.

Yeah...although even with the videos sometimes it's fine. Lord of the Rings morphs from video to gameplay seemlessly...the 'movie' side is fine.

Also if using usbadvance it's quite hit and miss with games that actually work. There's a list somewhere on a Spanish site from memory <link ne1?> that has a list of tested games and works/doesn't work state. Games that aren't on that list it's a matter of taking the time to put them on the drive and testing. None of the footy games I have work (NRL, NRL 2, NRL 2 World Cup Edition) for example.
