Help! i've been using dvd shrink for a long time. i've never had a problem before. i got a new laptop, hp nc6220, & i'm using the same external drive.
i watch movies on my ps2 or modded xbox (old one) with xbox media center, & my modded xbox tells me what type of dvd it is (game, video, data), and my old movies that I've burned with dvd shrink still work, but my recent ones won't work.
i tried using different media, a different external drive, different usb ports,& they still show up as data, & the movie won't play past the half way point. & ps2 won't even recognize it. they play on my laptop, but not on dvd players. is there a setting i need to change in dvd shrink, or my laptop? oh, i've also tried nero & clonedvd, same results. any help or feedback will be greatly appreciated!
thanks in advance!

Quote: I've burned with dvd shrink
Dvd Shrink does not burn. It's calls on another program to do the burning. Nero, Decrypter, Imgburn, etc.

Sounds like inferior/cheap media. Try using good quality blank media. Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim and burn between 6x and 8x max.
Also, Dvd Shrink cannot handle all newere movies by itself. Might want to look at DvdFab Hd Decrypter.
Links to that and a whole slew of good info are in my sig.

i laways use good media. nothing but taiyo yuden or verbatim. i'll try DvdFab Hd Decrypter, i'e used it before. i just don't understand, i've burned hundreds of backup movies before & never had this problem before.
i'll try other programs & i'll post wether it worked for me or not. cause i'm convinced that it's a setting issue. also, my external burner is sensed as a "cd" drive instead of a "dvd" drive. although i can backup games without an issue.

i forgot to mention, when i recode with nero, i get a "layer 1 failed" message, but it says i have a successful burn. & i'm using a single layer dvd (taiyo yuden, even verbatum). i've tried burning from disc to disc, & i tried ripping it to my hdd with anydvd 6.4.2.2.
this is really starting to aggrevate the s*** out of me.

Gumstain, as brother 7thsinger wisely suggested, use Imgburn to burn after dvd shrink. IMHO Imgburn much better than Nero
BTW, hope you are not using Nero 8 (very bad)

i think maybe that's what it is. i'm using nero8, now that i think about it, that's when these problems began! i'm gonna un-install nero8, use the clean tool & re-install 7! i'm also gonna try img burn, although i tried img burn a long time ago, i didn't think it was user friendly, but i was a noob then. i'll give it another try. thanks guys i'll let you know how everything turns out.

In order to have Dvd Shrink call on Imgburn you need a slightly different version of Shrink.

@Gumstain
if you want my honest opinion. Imgburn is the best burner out there. The only thing it lacks is mutltisession burning. You won't be sorry.

Agreed, Cardinal 7thsinger and Brother iluvendo both give great advice amd imgburn is just about hands down the best burning program out there. I keep it as a backup burning program and use it from time to time.

i have been in another forum but looked in this one for some answers.
i have been having a problem with dvd shrink and dvd decrypter.
i downloaded dvdfab and imgburn.and fixvts.
my problem was that my copy would stop after a few chapters and not play.on my computer they would play fine.
now going by what i have been reading on this site i am decoding with dvdfab then running thru fixvts then thru dvd shrink then at last coping to disk with imgburn at a speed of 6x this speed was set to auto i changed it to 6x everone i have tried now has played fine.
thanks for all the input and i hope this can help someone who is havong the same problem.
