My PS3 isnt working

Well yesterday i went to turn it on and i came on and i was moving threw the xmb and all of asudden it froze so i rebooted it and when it came on it froze again but it froze with no icons showing, but it was showing the waves in the background. I tried it a few more times and it kept on doing the same thing with the icons not showing. So i let it rest most of the day then i tried it a few more times and it just comes up as a blank screen no sound or anything just a blank screen.

I tried to switch to Component but the same exact thing happens i tried holding the power button and i got that other beep but nothing happens. Does anyone have any idea what it may be?

Oh and i also noticed when i turn it on that it seems like it loses power, I hear it like normal and then it seems like it just drops down and loses power.

Did you update to the latest firmware (2.40)?

Hold down your power button and let it reset. If not then format your hard drive through the computer and put it back in.

sounds like a problem with the power. maybe the power supply unit is bad. that would be a best case scenerio. worst case, or just as likely, is the fact that the motherboard might be defective.

Call Sony and tell them it happened after you updated to 2.40, they're fixing 2.40 bricks for free. It does sound like a brick though.

hey i got it working and again i never updated to 2.40. Well i let it sit for about a week with the harddrive out. Then one day my dad turned it on and it came up to the hdmi screen or what ever it is. My dad went and got the harddrive put it in the froze every time with the harddrive in. So my dad hooked it up to the computer found a way to format it in fat32 and once it was formated it worked. My parents were thinking about buying me a new one to lol and it was going to be the 80gig mgs bundle.
