ps3 controller disconnects please help

when playing games my controller disconnects and i have to restart ps3 to get it reconnected anyone else having this problem its happening mainly while playing cod4 online but happens rarely on other games too

I've not heard of this problem, do you have more than one controller? If so does it happen on both controllers?

Have your tried reassigning the controller by pressing the PS button rather than resetting the PS3?

its my friends ps3 and i brought my controller over and it does the same thing. so while playing (even with the usb wire connected to the controller) the disconnection alert pops up but the controller is still indicated that its assigned. the buttons on the controller dont work nor does connecting a different controller. i havent found any information on it being a glitch in an update as ive heard there were problems before and its very inconsitant, one day itll work fine and the next itll only do it once.

Sounds like if it happens only on your friends PS3 then his PS3 has a problem. If it happens on both yours and your friends PS3 then its likely to be a faulty controller.

question? How old is the system, and has he done any recent updates for the PS3? If before 30 days it may well be a safer idea to take the unit back to the place of purchase and see if the same issue replicates, this way he can get it exchanged. If he hasn't gotten any recent updates it could just be needing a patch or something. If none of the above can be done do you still have 1 year left on this PS3? Call sony up... If its the controller that came with it then it too is covered under the same warranty.

Last question... does this problem also happen when keeping the controller hardwired? IF it does not then definitely the controller is bad get it replaced, there will be no fix for this on sony's side. However if on both sides... I won't repeat myself any further.
