I'm extremely new to using DVD Shrink. It was going good for awhile, and now all of a sudden I've been getting errors when trying to use the Open Disk button. First, it would say 'Invalid DVD navigation structure'. Did that with 3 or 4 different disks. Now, with a new disk, I'm getting an error that says 'DVD Shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read "E:\" Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy Check).
Now, I get that the second one is obviously something to do with not being able to read the disk, BUT it's brand new, there's no reason. But, other than that, I'm clueless. I don't even know where to start. I'm pretty good with the computer, and I can probably figure it out with some help, but without some direction, it's like a different language to me! I'll bet these answers are here, somewhere, but I'm not really good with the lingo here, and after reading through about 20 threads, I started to think it'd be best to just start my own. If it is answered somewhere, you could just point me in that direction and I'd appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance!

Just read the thread a few below mine, so let me add - the dvd is not scratched. at all. Brand new. And, I'm using DVDFab also, so I tried to run that when Shrink wouldn't work, and I got an error with that also. It will open up, but after clicking start, I recieve another error. And, one more thing, it shouldn't be an issue with space on the computer, because I've had about 7 disks backed up at one time with no problem, and I have none saved right now.

Hi Olivia,
What you are expierencing is that dvd shrink has not been updated for years, so it needs some help
1) decrypt dvd to hard drive with dvdfabhddecrypter, free from
www.dvdfab.com the free stuff
2) use fixvts on the entire file on hard drive
fixvts can be found here at aD
3) now use ddv shrink (ckick open files)
There you go. Enjoy
BTW all the programs are free

1) update to latest dvdfab
2) make sure dvd is clean, if not clean it with a soft cloth.
If this still does not work , could be a bad pressing, so may need to exchange and retry

Thanks, I'm going to give it a try. How exactly am I gonna want to do this? How do I use the fix program, I mean? The dvdfab won't work, everytime I get an error with shrink, I get an error with DVDFab.

It could still have a slight mark which may not be visible. SOme of the errors also appear when it's a "bad press".
Unlike when we burn, the dvd manufacturer's 'press' the files onto the disk. Unfortunately, they have gotten very sloppy the past few years. The disks may play fine on dvd players and computers, but are a pain to rip. So far, this is the biggest problem we have found with most newer movies.
One last question. What is the movie you are trying to rip?
Edit: Spelling and more info.

Thank you both for your help, after a little bit of messing around with the program I figured out that if I did ONLY the movie, that it would work alright. I'll definitely be back if I need more help! Thank You!

Thats great. Sometimes doing movie only is the best option if you want a quality back-up and are having problems. Sometimes the movie studios put so much crap on there it is hard for even the best programs to work around it.
