Just giving us bigger hdds is all apparently there really is a demand for it, which was contrarary to their reasoning for not releaseing the 80gb when that was first released.
Basically Sony is fucking us all over with the PS3! and putting themselves in the lne of fire which may cause some to not buy from Sony in the future.
I've already got my PS3,but I could see how this is an upset. They are stripping the console just like they did with the PS2.Sony is trying to find a way to manufacture the system at a cheaper price, since MS is starting to lower the prices to compete with the Wii.The only consoles left that are still high in price from my point of view are the PS3 and the Xbox 360 Elite systems.I would rather have 20GB of storage and have the PS2 Enigma chip,All the USB ports,SACD support, and the flash readers and then upgrade the harddrive on my own.I know Sony will not do that though, because it cost too much to manufacture the system for the price they are selling it at.They know they can't compete with the other companies without stripping the system down so this is a problem, and yeah I agree it is screwing the buyer.
Yup, I heard. It's no surprise really.....as for the PS3 compatibility, Sony did say that they are trying to push PS2 owners into buying PS3. But for this to work they need to drop the price a bit.

I already own a 60GB PS3 though. :)
Same here and I don't regret it at all,and probably should have got two of them at the time.I think the best thing Sony could do is backtrack and go back to the 60GB model, since all the other models had stuff stripped from it.

I should have grabbed more than one. Backwards compatible PS3s are starting to get rare now. Sony should step back, take a breath, look at the past, and see how many more Metal Gear Solid 4 80 gig bundles they sold the month it was released as opposed to the stripped down 40 gig. Maybe the rumor is true in that Sony is going to release a ps2 emulator in a firmware update, but it seems unlikely. I have a U.S. 60 gig PS3, and let me tell you, it is nice to be able to play God of War on my PS3.
