looks like its offical that "Madagascar" does have Ripguard

anydvd update to 5.6.1.1

5.6.1.1, 2005 11 27

- New: Added detection and removal of a new type of protection
"MacroVision RipGuard" as found on "Madagascar WideScreen" R1 (US)
or "Vet Hard" R2 (Netherlands) to the option to remove
"Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
Note: RipGuard could be copied together with elby CloneDVD2 since
AnyDVD version 5.4.1.1, but this new version supports drag and drop
of all files from DVD to harddisk as well!
- New: Added support for a new version of the Sony Arccos protection
as found on "Seinfeld Season 6 Disc 3" R2 (German) to the option to
remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
- New: Information Window now shows MacroVision RipGuard, if it was
detected.
- New: Information Window now displays, if "Error zones between files"
have been removed, like on "Resident Evil - Apocalypse" R1 (US)

brnichky try using CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD to do this movie, should work and its alot easier than using 3 or 4 programs and PSL files ,heres a guide to use CloneDVD 2 with anydvd

Yeah, James finally got Madagascar today (actually yesterday), so he was able to look at it and officially get the program to remove Ripguard. Before you could not drag and drop the movie files and now you can.

i did Madagascar effortlessly last night with DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.0 (free) then Shrunk with DVD Shrink as normal. what i did do was use my dvd-rom/cd-write combo drive (like io do for most of my ripping); didn't try to rip it on any of my dvd burners as i'd done the movie already but it's always nice to have a couple of optical drives..as if a movie won't play ball on one drive you always have a choice of drives to use..

You may have a conflict with some other programs that are loaded on your system. Easy CD creater 4 has some issues with sharing and I am sure that there are many others as well. Have you tried using enditall? This will give you options on what programs that you wouldlike to end or kill. Every thing will turn back on when you restart, and it will not let you kill any windows programs by mistake. Give it a try.

To anyone who want to copy MADAGASCAR , i just tried copying it with Shrinkto5 ( www.shrinkto5.com )software and it works, you need to use AnyDVD 5.6.1.1 in the background. It works exactly the same as DVD Shrink :) although When using Shrinkto5, use it only to backup you dvd to the hard drive and then use Nero to burn. I will only use it ShrinkTo5 in case PLAN "A" fails because DVD Shrink Is still #1 in dvd shrinking.

Sorry for the noob question, I have read this thread and really appreciate the great advice from all.

I am making a back up of Madagascar using the Decrypter/VobBlanker/DVD Shrink/Nero path and everything looks to be good to go except when I hit the DVD Shrink stage, it appears that I have taken a hit on the bightness of the video in a big way. I can't seem to find an adjustment to scale up the brightness in any of the 4 programs I am using here. Any suggestions? I figure it is something obvious, so, again, being a noob is just as frustrating for me!!

FYI - when using dvd decrypter for this, use Mode: File; not Mode: ISO / Read. it saves out the dvd rip in the VOB/BUP/IFO files format instead of the single ISO file format. then u can use VobBlanker. The Disney Sky High dvd is the same format, and that solution worked just fine :)

^^^Yeah, I read that someone that used Ripguard on their movies was very mad that the freeware DVD Decrypter was able to get past it with little problem.

Hi All
I to had problems with madagascar but I used dvddecrypter and then used shrink 3.2 on the files on my hard drive I also have anydvd 5.5.5.1 running to. Well after I got it done I was trying out some software I found on the internet (Super dvdcopy) on my other system I ran the movie again to my hard drive with super dvdcopy and I used srink 3.1 with anydvd 3.2.1.1 and it ran fine. So sometimes the new software is a pain
but it doesnt hurt to try different things.

thanks RACERXDVD

Well, after trashing my burner by installing FabDecrypter over Decrypter (my other thread - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/264482), I moved over to another system (Sony Vaio RS710GX) and installed FabDecrypter & VOBBlanker on it. I got all the way thru burning, but the disk still has errors. Got fed up & went to bed.

This morning, my gf woke me up (it was her Vaio) complaining that her computer was locked up & now won't boot. Sure enough, it's (*#^$^%$ed. It stops during POST asking about safe modes, last good configuration, or normal. But no matter what you choose, when it gets to the WinXPHome splash screen with the short progress bar, progress stops briefly in the middle, then a BSOD flashes too fast to read, then it goes directly back to POST & the same choice screen.

I used the camcorder to read the BSOD, & it's stop error 0xED "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME", which MS says is due to either a low-speed IDE cable on a high-speed system, or a corrupted hard drive. But I didn't change any cables, and the error parameters don't match what MS says would be there for corrupt HD. Sony doesn't provide recovery disks (you're supposed to burn your own from your HD after you buy it), so that system is DEAD for now.

Anyone have any idea what I've done now???

@steve83

Are you sure you didn't played or ripped any audio CD (recently/original bought) owned by Sony on your computer right? Remember the Sony BMG's RootKit virus? <---just a thought that comes to mind that's all. Yeah, you sure doesn't sounds good man.

Anyways, I don't think it's Madagascar that had fried your burner and Computer's OS. AnyDVD, DVDFab Decrypter and DVD Decrypter should all be able to take care of Madagascar easily.

Steve83,you should take it to a repair place, they may be able to save your files from the hard drive before it is re-formatted.

@alkohol

I too had that thought after backing up Madagascar. I checked my machine with RootKitRevealer and found nothing out of the ordinary. But I did have something happen with my machine after finally ripping it. My $ony burner refused to operate after ripping it. I had to turn off the machine and let it sit for a few. I tried rebooting it to no avail. The only thing odd that is on the Madagascar DVD is a little prog called go.exe. Double clicking it launches WMP and it tries to download content from the internet. My firewall caught it and stopped it from going anywhere.

@dysart147

In my experience when you get the unmountable boot volume message of death, that means that the disks MBR is hosed. He could try BartPE to try to get the files he wants.

Not according to this MicroSoft article:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;297185

It says to either replace the 40-wire cable with an 80-wire, or to use the recovery disc, which looks like what I'll have to do. She's supposed to talk to a guy that works in her office about it before we order the Sony DVD.

No, we don't buy CDs any more, and since I have ~18 Gb of .mp3s on my system playing continuously, she rarely plays one, either. The newest CD she has is Gwen Stefani that I gave her last April.

well i tried & tried for a great # of days on backing up my madagascar dvd and still to no avail it wouldnt work..i dont care which program i installed & there were a great handfull of them that still didnt work no matter in what conjunction i used them in...its soo frustrating as i know my son will jsut scratch the heck out of this new dvd..grr..lol ive tried older & newer versions of AnyDVD as well as dvd decryptor and so forth. after a point it just wouldnt let me as id get an error message stating its been tried being copied and will no longer allow to be played on my pc..powerdvd wouldnt even recgonize the rom drive no matter if different movies was even placed in drive. i could get great video just no audio whatsoever..that is very frustrating as i continue to read how others r managing to get their rips out ok..but for whatever reason it just wont allow on my pc anymore..so ive just given up till i install a fresh h/d and reinstall os w/the basic programs all over again..perhaps while i get xmas vacation for son ill have more time to focus on it..but attemtping to back it up has definitly put a lock on my pc now.

here's the error mssg i would get from clonedvd2 ::invalid block start code :: 1 or more blocks might be corrupted by a prior copying process or by the source device covering critical read errors. try copying the video files to your h/d again and retry. (details)> PS 10VOBU 4 622 7 Clone 6 TCE

i have no idea what all that means other than ever since i cant attempt to backup madagascar on my pc..but i will keep up in reading the other advice ive seen here.. thank you all who have tried to help out. brownie ^_^
