red screen is all i get.

Im not sure if I can make it any easier, sorry. Even I have to use my own guide every now and then t check im doing everything right, and I have no problems with it. There are other methods but I dont know them, the codebreaker method would be the best if your NTSC.

just use codebreaker and if you hava a PAL system use Maxconvert to convert the codes to raw, very easy and works every time...

This guide explains how to combine your ARMAX disc with a ps2
.ISO file to be installed onto a ps2 Hard Drive.
I wrote this guide because of the lack of information on this topic.

What you need:
- Action Replay MAX
- a hex editor (any hex editor will do)
- Daemon Tools (if you are using a game iso)
- ISOBuster
- about 6-8GB HD Space max (PC)

1.Extract ARMAX
Insert your ARMAX cd into your pc, open up isobuster, and select
the drive its in. Highlight everything apart from BIG.DAT,
BIG2.DAT and DUMMY.zip. Right click one of the files and click
extract, somewhere where you can easily find it like C:\ARMAX.
Also right click the red iso icon and select "Copy Tree-Info to
file -> LBA, Full Path" and save the text file somewhere.

2.Modify AR's SLES/SLUS file
Run your Hex Editor. Open ARMAX's SLES/SLUS (SLES_500.09,
SLUS_20x.xx) file and search for SYSTEM.CNF. Change it to
SYSTE1.CNF. Search a few more times and change all the results,
different versions have different amounts of SYSTEM.CNF mine had
4-5.

3.Extract Your Game Files
Load isobuster either with your game in the drive or select file,
open image. Extract the contents just like you did with ARMAX to
a folder C:\GAMENAME. "Copy Tree-Info to file -> LBA, Full Path"
once more, now close isobuster.

4.Rename games SYSTEM.CNF
Fairly self explanatory go to the folder where you extracted your
games contents to and rename its SYSTEM.CNF to SYSTE1.CNF.

5.Order Game files
Start up CD/DVD-Generator Version 1.50 Patched, Create New
Project -> DVD-ROM Master Disc. Open the text file created by
isobuster for the game and drag the game files in order to the
DIRECTORY window.

Open up the ARMAX text file and add the ARMAX
files in order also. Select Volume tab, enter your SL*S number
with no "." into disc name and change license area to wherever
you are.

Now just Select File -> Export IML FILE.

6.Create ISO
Open up IML2DVD, IML2ISO or Apache.
IML2DVD: browse click the [...] Button and select the IML you
just created, choose an output iso file name then click start.
Not sure about IML2ISO.
Apache: Click File -> Import IML File, then File -> Build ISO.
Heres my created ISO in ISOBuster

6.Transfering The ISO To The Hard Drive
With the PS2 Hard Drive connected to your Computer load up
WINHIIP. Select your drive then click Add Image and browse to you
ISO. Make sure you set the boot file as your AR SLES and click
install.
Now load up HDloader/HDadvance and select your game, ARMAX should
load.

Note:This needs to be done to each game you want to cheat on. Seems not worth it, but once you've done it once its really easy.

Credit for this guide go's to chevyuk who I think first
descovered this method http://chevyuk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk but
has been modified alot for greater compatibility.

Ok here are download links to all files that are needed, links should be permanent so post if they dont work.
ARMAX can be obtained from http://www.cryptbreaker.hyperboards.com/ ,no direct links as it gets regular updates.

OR you can just put the ARMAX disc in, select the cheates for the game you want, put the HDLoader disc in, select your game, and voilla.

That does work, but for me I used the PS2 Memory Card exploit to load damn near everything on my PS2 (or did before I sold it to get a PS3). The Exploit disc wont boot after ARMAX has been inserted thus I needed to combine the two, and instead of needing the CD's. With that setup the only time you need to open the disc tray is to install new games which I generally did with my PC anyway, I was very cautious about the use of my laser being as my first system crapped out from playing my burnt games, so did my brothers, I then bought a very cheap system that had a broken disc tray (which was easy to fix, and made that PS2 well worth it) and fixed it. As it was 2nd hand I had no idea of how much life the laser had.

@hitthebug
I might be able to upload that file in a day or two, my mates been borrowing my AR disc for over a month so I should be getting it back off him tomorrow if I remember.

Im sorry I cant help you guys much, im completely out of the PS2 scene now. Am now more into PS3 related stuff, and just recently I got my PSP working so thats my main focus now. But i'll try my best to help.

@craiggg
if you think that your version of ARMAX might be at fault try downloading one from http://cryptbreaker.hyperboards.com/ you might need to register first. Red screen normally means the disc isnt in the correct format/layout, have you tried other games? some games have their files in a very messed up format and no matter what you do it wont start. Could also try playing around with modes in HDloader.

@Lahsiv
Good that it actually boots, thats the biggest problem to overcome. Are you sure the codes you are trying to use are for your version of the game? games can have multiple versions that all look the same but the AR codes wont work for all of them. Perfect example of this is the GTA games, look on the codejunkies website under "G" theres like 6 different versions for each GTA. So, if your able to, check that the codes work when booting both AR and the game from disc.

Im struggling to think of anything else that might help you guys.

Sorry for bumping a really old thread, but I have a question I'd like to put forward to you Andrew. Many people on other forums, myself included have been interested in getting a product called Xploder HDTV to work with HDLoader. It's a bootdisc that forces the PS2 to output games in progressive scan. Despite it's inconsistent reviews, there's a strong following of people who swear by it, myself included. HDLoader just freezes on a game load, if Xploder HDTV is loaded beforehand. I'm wondering perhaps if your combining method would work on it? Help?

Just saw on thepiratebay.org a copy of the HDTV disc, that also has an ELF file that can be launched via Loader programs, it could also be loaded instead of ARMAX.

Where are you having the problem? does it boot from HDloader but your game wont work?

I have several methods that could work.

The version you found is definitely the one use, as the original disc is encrypted all to hell. Taking a peek through a hex editor, I can only see a single reference to "tem.cnf" in the ELF. No idea where to go from here.

Hi Andrew691,
I did everything you wrote on the guide up to step 2. When I try to open the SLUS_200.90 with Hex Editor, I get nothing but gibberish. I was going to paste a pic, but it would not let me. In other words, There is nothing, such as, SYSTEM.CNF to edit. Help me here!

Upload it to somewhere like rapidshare and I'll have a look at it.

I have gone through several different versions of Action Replay Max (borrowed from lots of friends, and also a couple of PAL versions I got used online). Total of 12 Action Replay discs gone through (only 3 were PAL, 4 Duplicate NTSC)...here is what I found so far...

There is an encrypted version of the SLUS file, and one of the SLES file (does not say system.cnf anywhere)

The media player, instant messenger, and memory manager programs are mostly the same on all NTSCs (1 or 2 bytes changes, proably bug-fixes) the same is true for the PALs, but the NTSC ELFs have many differences from the PAL ELFs.

Most of the images used by ARMAX are identical between all of the discs. PAL versions have a lot of extra files to support english, french & german (NTSC seems to be english-only, but I have heard there is a Japanese NTSC version out there somewhere)

You have to change the save directory be editing the SLUS/SLES file. By default it is "BESLES-00000 DATEL" for both PAL & NTSC versions. The different codelists will make ARMAX crash if you use the same save dirrectory. Also, if you want to make custome a single-game codelist, just for the game you are integrating ARMAX into, you will need to make a custome save dirrectory, maybee "BESLES-11110 DATEL", "BESLES-11111 DATEL", etc... for each different game. If you intend to do this for more that a couple of games, get a 64MB memory card.

The media player, instant messanger, and memory manager are all ELF files, and can be replaced with homebrew ELFs. I use uLaunchELF, HDLD Server, & Media Player Pro. If you do this, you can also delete many image files (and 2 whole dirs) associated with these terrible built-in programs...SOME HOMEBREWS DON'T WORK (MOSTLY STUFF WITH IRX's)

On the PAL discs there is a file "emulator.ELF" that is not used by ARMAX at all.

After extensive work on the best (latest production date) SLUS & SLES files I had available, I was able to make a "Hybrid" Armax with all the stuff above. It only adds about 7mb to the CD/DVD image (Plus however many MB of wallpaper, ELFs, & custom codelists you may have).

Overall, it seems like you don't know what exactly what you will get on an ARMAX disc.

[edit]
PS2 games are usualy 8.3 file format, but armax has a lot of long file names. This may cause a problem with some mastering softwares. You can fix this with a hex editor.

Somebody please HELPPPPP!!!
I downloaded an image of Dragon Quest 8 here:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3695014/...h_Action_Replay

it containes Action Replay Max. So as it saggested, I loaded the burned disc on my PS2, then on the AR menu I went to the Expert Mode, but it askes the code and if I proceed without a code (don't enter the code), the game won't load, it says "Invalid Code". So what should I do?
(sorry if I repeat the question, just can't read so many pages)

Has been a while since i last booted ARMAX to do anything other than memory card related stuff. What part exactly is asking for a code? is it directly after selecting expert mode where you should get a list of games?
Had a quick look at what people said about this guys releases and it seems that the games cheat codes need to be re added each time you start the game. It looks like when he rebuilt the image that he either left out the codelist file or tried to add an updated one, making something not work.

If thats the case then try http://us.codejunkies.com/search/codes/D...3680-13___.aspx if I remember correcty its the (M) code you need to enter there, then add each individual code.

Thanks for reply. All I needed to launch the game is to click the freaking batton """START""" in the game list of expert mode and thats all, but nobody mentioned it, they just said "load your game without cheats and it would work" so I went to cheats and tried to load "without cheats" an empty stroke, of course it would give an error of invalid code. Then in the running stroke I found a saggestion to click start.

Sorry for bothering, but there are really many players who stuck in this moment.

I would need to use a slus file, since my AR max is ntsc, so don't worry ile just hex edit it. but the link for the cd dvd generator on sksapps.. that program looks nothing like the one in your screenshot. it doesn't have the menu or options you mention in the guide. do you have a link to the program you actually used, the patched version of it? Is that the $ony cd/dvd generator ? (if it is i cant seem to find that either) whatever the file is, perhaps you could post a link to it on rapidshare or something.

Thanks for replying, i see this thread was started a couple of years ago!

Didnt realise that wasnt the right program, after a fair bit of searching i managed to find version 2.0 of CD/DVD Gen and have uploaded it here http://rapidshare.de/files/40505912/CDVDGEN2.0.rar.html

That should work for rebuilding your game, if not I will soon be uploading version 1.5 as well.

EDIT: I will soon be hosting my own website, so all these files will have a permanent download location.
