Thought you might be interested in this forgotten bit of information..........

It was 1987! At a lecture the other day they were playing an old news video of Lt.Col. Oliver North testifying at the Iran-Contra hearings during the Reagan Administration.

There was Ollie in front of God and country getting the third degree, but what he said was stunning!

He was being drilled by a senator; "Did you not recently spend close to $60,000 for a home security system?"

Ollie replied, "Yes, I did, Sir."

The senator continued, trying to get a laugh out of the audience, "Isn't that just a little excessive?"

"No, sir," continued Ollie.

"No? And why not?" the senator asked.

"Because the lives of my family and I were threatened, sir."

"Threatened? By whom?" the senator questioned.
"By a terrorist, sir" Ollie ans! wered.

"Terrorist? What terrorist could possibly scare you that much?"

"His name is Osama bin Laden, sir" Ollie replied.

At this point the senator tried to repeat the name, but couldn't pronounce it, which most people back then probably couldn't. A couple of people laughed at the attempt. Then the senator continued. Why are you so afraid of this man?" the senator asked.

"Because, sir, he is the most evil person alive that I know of", Ollie answered.

"And what do you recommend we do about him?" asked the senator.

"Well, sir, if it was up to me, I would recommend that an assassin team be formed to eliminate him and his men from the face of the earth."

The senator disagreed with this approach, and that was all that was shown of the clip.

By the way, that senator was Al Gore!

Also:

Terrorist pilot Mohammad Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners."

However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands, The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released.

Thus Mohammad Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified

Message from the Ghost of General Patton....
ATTENTION!

OK you whining, panty-waisted, pathetic maggots, it's time for a little refresher course on exactly why we Americans occasionally have to fight wars.

See if you can tear yourself away from your "reality" TV and Starbucks for a minute, pull your head out of your flabby ass -- and LISTEN UP!!

THIS IS an atrocity!
WHICH PART DON'T
YOU GET?
Islam a peaceful religion???
Millions of these sons-of-bitches are plotting as we speak to destroy our country and our way of life any way they can.

Some of them are here among us now. They don't want to convert you and don't want to rule you. You are a vile infestation of Allah's paradise. They don't give a sh@# how "progressive" you are, how peace-loving you are, or how much you sympathize with their cause.

They want you dead, and think it is God's will for them to do it. And you think Bush and Ashcroft are your worst enemies?

Some think if we give them a
hug or listen to them, then they'll
like us... and if you agree, then you are a dumb ass!

If they manage to get their hands on a nuke, chemical agents, or even
some anthrax -- you will wish to God we had hunted them down and killed THEM while we had the chance.

Stop bitchin' about your Damn Health Care, Social Security, Gas prices, and your measly 5.25% unemployment rate...and start worrying about you, your family's, and your friends' asses.

How many more Americans must be beheaded before you stop blaming Bush for all your troubles -- and grow some balls for a change?

You've fallen asleep AGAIN, maggots! And you may not get another chance!

NOW GET OFF YOUR SORRY ASS-
and pass this on to any and every person you give-a-damn about... if you ever gave a damn about
anything.
DISMISSED!

there are so many things wrong with that i don't know where to begin...but i'll toss the most obvious one out, i suppose. Islam is a religion of peace, practiced by hundreds of millions of people worldwide. it's the few thousand nutcases that take their culture to heart and bastardize the religion into a mere shell of what it was. and of those assholes, it's a few hundred that become the suicide bombing pricks we hear about on the news. you want to bash people, you bash them on something other than religion; if that's your crutch, i say we take it away from you and beat you to death with it.

and we don't have all the answers, but we freely admit it! we don't jump the gun first by jumping to the guns! shooting first and asking questions later only leaves the world with innocents killed by richochets.

And who was it that put these great americans of ours directly into the line of fire? Was it Osama or Saddam? I give up, if growing balls and rushing blindly into war to somehow patch your fathers bruised ego is your idea of growing balls then my friend, maybe you should concentrate on growing a brain...turn off Fox and Bill O'Reilly's (most definately "spin zone"} and get an opinion of your own. Who sounds brainwashed now?

Hmmm...I hadn't looked at this thread until now. Such a sad commentary indeed. It is truly sad that some don't know the difference between patriotism and nationalism; liberal or conservative, the former is a good thing which, even in the midst of ideological differences has always had a productive consequence while the "my country right or wrong" mentality of the latter brings only ruin...thank God we've not seen much of it since Germany's little experiment in national socialism.

An interesting bit of irony comes to mind. Immediately after invading Iraq, there were quite a few demonstrations in a lot of American cities. The Heritage Foundation, the elite of conservative Republican think tanks, came out swinging preaching on any network that would listen that these unpatriotic "liberals" are treasonous and should be jailed. Interesting. Precisely what Saddam Hussein would have said...both extremists to whom opinions mean nothing if it isn't their's. When all is said and done, they're exactly alike.

oh, and gerry1: what do you mean by the difference between patriotism and nationalism? as i can find, they are defined nearly identically, except that patriotism has a connotation of loving your country...hmmm, well, from inside its borders, doing what you can to make the most of it, while with nationalism one actively asserts dominance, authority, or superiority over other country's, as though one has an inferiority complex or something...am i on the right track, gerry?

i'm pretty sure you've already listed them, and i'm pretty sure Fox is mostly full of BS, as they've had their false facts handed to them like John the Baptist's head on a silver platter a number of times.

The only time I watch Fox is when I'm looking for a police chase live on TV...I mean if a channel is so strong, then why would they employ the likes of Greta Van Sustren and *giggle* Geraldo Rivera? Greta's sole purpose in life is Natalie Holloway, move on Greta until you really have an update on the case. And Geraldo, what a Jack@ss...need I say more.

Edit: you want some names, I'll give you some names.

John McCain, sorry he didn't make it a couple years ago, and we all know he doesn't want it now.

Joe Biden, go get em Joe.

i had to get in on this . anyway your only a number in the army or whatever branch . they will spend years over in saudia and millions of dollars and also lives .and we will leave there and some other ass@@@# will take over and it will be the same way it was before we went there.just like in veitnam all those years helping out the south . 58, 000 lives gone for nothing.the day we left the north took over anyway .does not make sense in my book. remember war keeps the economy going ......i dont think we should blame bush tho. this is why i am adding the picture to my threads lots of people forget the veitnam war i dont uncle was there and lost lots of his friends.

@auslander: you are essentially correct and the two can seem much the same; patriotism is love love of one's country, its people, its system of laws, justice and government...nationalism can be all those things but takes it further in the love of government and its authority...even if the dictates of that government go against even the principles it claims to support..."My country right or wrong". I'm no conservative by any means yet I quite agree with the following article's definitions of patriotism and nationalism ... its actually quite brief. I don't agree with everything in it but the difference between the two is explained better than I can. The views of the heritage foundation had more in common with the "Enemies of freedom" they point the finger at than with the very principles upon which this country was founded. They are nationalists, not at all patriots.

Any American, whether the most liberal of democrats or the most conservative of republicans, any american who won't acknowledge one's right to an opinion or who abuses others with different opinions may be a nationalist but he's not patriot because he's abusing the very principles upon which this country and its constitution is built.

@toyotaman: I wouldn't vote for McCain simply because we don't share the same political views but I do have an enormous respect for the man. If all american politicians, regardless of their politics, had that kind of dignity, it sure would do us a world of good.
